Juice cleanse? Is it worth it?

Laura2.0, on October 20, 2016 at 2:14 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 1 45

Has anyone tried any good juice cleanses? I'm not trying to loose a significant amount of weight but just trying to transition into a healthier lifestyle and loose a few lbs along the way. I am fairly active its the eating part that gets me, so I was thinking maybe a cleanse to kick start some healthy eating habits. My head says salads but my heart screams tacos.

    Juice cleanses aren't healthy.

They aren't super healthy but they work. I actually prefer smoothies with almond milk, protein powder and a lot of greens.

"They aren't super healthy but they work"

    1. They don't "work" because you have a f*cking live to remove toxins from your body and

    2. If they're not healthy, why would you ever promote it?

The best way to start fat loss ( don't focus on weight loss) is to do things that will increase your metabolism ( drink lots of water, lift weights and eat protein to gain muscle). A juice cleanse will slow your metabolism.

Just focus on eating healthy and the rest will take care of itself.

Yes, you will loose some weight if you only drink juice for a few days. You will probably gain it all back immediately.

And you'll also get the runs.

O hell no! If they aren't healthy I don't want to try it then. The whole point is to become more healthy not just loose a quick few lbs and go back to shitty eating. I was just beginning to do some research so thought I'd ask.

@m that was a helpful article thanks

Yeah it sounds like a good idea but you're not detoxing anything and you're ingesting more sugar than you'd get from a milkshake and absolutely no fiber. Just eat the piece of fruit!

Nope. Move more, eat less. If your kidneys and liver are functioning, you don't need a cleanse.

EW - The reason juice cleanses "work" is because you don't eat anything so you are going to lose weight from starving yourself for the 3-5 days you are "cleansing". BTW, it's bullshit because your body has these things called a liver and kidneys, they are what detoxify your system. FFS, do we not learn simple fucking biology anymore?

I did CoolerCleanse two years ago for 3 days and enjoyed it. The juices were tasty (To this day I still make my own pineapple & ginger juice) and I was never hungry surprisingly enough. More than once, I was still sipping on the previous juice when it was time to drink the next juice.

I lost about 6lbs and when I got off the cleanse I gained 4 of it back right away (I didn't binge eat either).

"Clearing toxins" out of your body is bullshit. I did it cause I wanted to try it and I wanted to find a way to get more nutrients in me. I felt really good throughout it and like I said I was never hungry, but god did I miss chewing. It's weird not chewing anything for 3 days!

It was also very expensive but did inspire me to buy my own juicer and do it my damn self.

ETA: Doing something so dramatic is probably not a good way to jump start a healthier life. Just incorporate more juices/nutrients into your diet now.

Glad you decided against it. They're definitely not healthy and you really only lose water weight (thanks to diarrhea!)

Dad diets are the WORST way to lose weight, because they're not sustainable.

Now that I have a way to work out reliably, I'm working on transitioning my daily diet to healthier choices: if I want a burger, I make it at home and make it heartier instead of stopping at McDonald's (where I'll be hungry again in a couple of hours). If I want sugar, I look for fruit or a naturally sweet food, in the least processed form possible. I'm looking into making my own applesauce because I take cinnamon apple sauce with me to work.

There are a lot of ways to help with cravings and you don't have to cut yourself off from the "good stuff" completely, just limit it. If you have a piece of cheesecake today, don't have one tomorrow. That kind of stuff.

Everything in moderation, and follow the food pyramid. We as a society eat WAY more grains and dairy than we need to, and nowhere near the fruits and vegetables we need to. I'm horrible about vegetables, but I can make celery into a snack I LOVE by adding a very tiny amount of cream cheese to the center. It doesn't take much to give me the flavor I want, and it stays with me for awhile.

Learning to make as much from scratch as possible is a HUGE help in changing your diet for the better.

Also, for the record, I did not get the runs. But I'm a very regular pooper so maybe that had something to do with it..

Hi Gorgeous Laura! Beautiful, if your heart is screaming tacos then treat yourself to a taco :-), lean turkey, tiny bit of cheese, peppers and only a tiny amount of sour cream. You can still eat tacos and be healthy. It's just in how you make the taco and what you eat in a healthy balance throughout your day.

I would stay away from juice cleanses - dumping a lot of sugar (if it's all fruits) into your body without anything else is just miserable on all fronts. And even if it's all veggies then you just would be loading yourself up on complex carbs without the balance to it. BUT I realize that it's your body and I respect what you decide. If you do try a juice cleanse then make sure your putting protein into that smoothie! Plant Fusion protein is my favorite because you don't have to worry about how the whey protein was made and it's vegetarian and vegan friendly-but just have fun playing around and finding out what works the best for you.

This is a crazy analogy-especially coming from a personal trainer. But I think that finding the perfect health and fitness plan is like visiting an ice cream shop. The basis of how to be slim and sexy is the same - (nutrition + exercise), but we get to add the "toppings" and customize it what meets our bodies needs. That's the best part about this!

Yes there are ways that work a bit faster than others (in my experience tracking macros is the fastest, healthiest way), but at the end of the day it's about having a sexy, strong, and healthy body that lasts long beyond your wedding day. How we live today sets the standard of how our children should respect their bodies tomorrow.

I love the fact that you are taking initiative and stepping out in your fitness journey. Just have fun and keep it healthy Gorgeous, that's how your sexy "Laura's Wedding Fitness Transformation" occurs!
