she did look beautiful in her allure gown though.

Lol. I never watch them, but why so many ppl. Really 1000? And I'm not going to knock an ice cream social, might be fun taking some things in mind, but I would definitely expect some bbq/picnic style foods.... Sliders, french fries, etc before you give me loads of dairy and sugar.

Well, at least the older girls are leaving the nest. That's something, at least. I've known a few no birth control families, and the largest family had ten children (one profoundly handicapped, both mentally and physically). I watched the oldest child, a 21 year old daughter (of course) who should have gone off to college, but instead was saddled with the responsibility of caring for the five youngest children. On top of that, all of the female siblings (even the ones as young as 9 and 11) were tasked with bathing, changing the diapers, and sanitary napkins of the 19 year old handicapped sister. It got even worse when the mother decided this wasn't the life for her, left her husband (who maintained p/t employment only), and married a man who was in prison for murdering his wife (life sentence). Now, I'm certainly not saying that the Duggars are anything like these people, but there does seem to be some kind of soft tyranny going on there -- not much diversion of thought, not enough time to spend with each child, and children being forced into adult roles because there just aren't enough parents to do the job. I'm sorry, but I'm going to say it -- when you have children and a doctor tells you that having another chlld is a significant health risk, I don't understand how you put your existing children at the risk of losing their mother. I just can't get inside their heads, but I'm sure they feel they've been rewarded for following their faith. I can't watch them -- even on a commercial.

Centerpiece, she would most likely feel righteous if she died in childbirth, being as it's "God's will", ignoring her duty & responsibility to PEOPLE ON EARTH. #cognitivedissonance

I'm not going to lie...they are my occasional guilty pleasure. I no way do I aspire to be like them, but when it's on and there isn't anything else good on tv, I'll watch it. Like I say with most people who choose to live a differnt type of life than me: As long as it doesn't negatively affect my daily life, I give zero fucks.

"God's will?" That's bullshit. Having 19 kids when kids are starving and dying all over the planet from lack of resources is clearly not a demonstration of 'God's will". If you even buy into that.

Don't they go on mission trips to feed the hungry/build shelters/spread the "word". Idk...not defending them but that's more than I've ever done myself to help the planet and it's starving people, so I can't really hate on them for not adopting

You can never ever use what they do as a guide to anything.

I don't mind the duggars... I think the mom is way too calm half the time and her voice is annoying but I don't think they are bothering anyone. Yes they go on mission trips and if you watch the show almost every other episode they are doing some sort of volunteer work. They are different but you can tell they are genuinely good people... there is way worse on TV.

I also don't mind the Duggars. They are a guilty pleasure. I don't agree with their extreme religious views and bigotry, but they have some morals I admire.

They are horrible, horrible people affecting everyone with their biased, bigoted personal choices, and should be ashamed. But they are not.

I think the Duggars are completely bizzare and very rude and when it comes to their wedding receptions; I've been to 'hick' weddings that were nicer and I'm talking camo, keg beer, hay and four wheelers in the mud!

There is a great quote and I want to credit Paula Poundstone, but I'm not sure..."When your god tells you what do to, that's fine; when your god tells you what I should do, that's a problem."

Okay... so I get frustrated with the Duggars because they completely seem to misrepresent the no birth controlled families. As a Catholic I greatly believe in Natural Family Planning and have seen it work incredibly well (The families I know that practice it have 4 kids max and are older couples with the kids out of their houses)

The "Will of God" is great and all, but you have to actually do your side of the bargain and keep track of your fertility (and not rythm method, it includes things like checking cervical mucous etc) and making sure to avoid sex on your fertile days. It works if you actually bother to check on your fertility

It wasn't JUST ice cream. She wanted ice cream instead of cake. She said earlier in the episode they were going to do hot dogs, etc.

For a religious family, there's a lot of phallic imagery there.
