Jack and Jill's? Stag and doe's ?

I'm really curious what people's thoughts are. Have you attended any? Would you yourself have one? Are they common in your area? I'm from central mass and I just heard about them this year. I have never attended one but they sound kind of fun. What's your thoughts?

I'm from Oklahoma, and I hadn't heard of this until being on WW. It's tacky AF. Pay for your own damn wedding.

Where I'm from jack and Jill means coed shower and that's the only time I've ever heard it. Also nobody has them bc we generally have large weddings lol so it's not really an option it would basically be a wedding

    Penelope and catlady-

Don't laugh-- it's true! People really do charge admission or sell tickets.

I'm from CT. I've never been to a wedding where there WASN'T a stag party for the groom, thrown by his dad or groomsmen. I never realized how rude it was until I really thought about it. Everyone just sort of accepts it as a reunion of sorts, and people are happy to go to catch up with old friends.

That being said, in my circle they are properly hosted and a little classier. FFIL is planning both FH's stag and his brother's (getting married as well). They will probably be at s golf course with a great restaurant.

I've been to a couple jack and Jill's that were NOT classy and the wedding party had to do all of the work.

ETA: they are not seen (in my circle) as s fundraiser for the wedding. It is more like a cash shower for men that is planned by someone other than the groom. So kind of gross but sort of acceptable.

These are common in very specific areas of the US and Canada. Definitely not everywhere. Many people here will not know what they are.

I find them tacky and would never attend one.

Fundraiser? Is your wedding a charity? Will I get a tax right off my donating?

It's pretty standard in Canada, but I am super opposed to it.

I'm not a fan of getting people NOT EVEN INVITED TO THE WEDDING to fund it.

And I'm especially not a fan of making your wedding party, make games, donate prizes or have to work the function.

Stag and doe's or whatever you want to call them are bullshit!!!!

Pay for the Wedding you can afford dammit!

The only "Jack and Jill" event I had ever heard of before wedding forums was the combined shower or combined bachelor/bachelorette party. No money involved, just a more inclusive party that isn't segregated by gender. I cannot imagine throwing a tacky-ass fundraiser for your wedding. Have the sort of wedding you can afford. It's that easy.

I've never heard of a wedding fundraiser with these titles and any sort of wedding fundraiser is a bad idea IMO. However, I'm heard of "Jack and Jill" showers (combined showers) and "Stag and Doe Nights" (combined bachelor/bachelorette parties), and I think they're a cute idea. I honestly wish we'd done this for mine since a wedding should be about celebrating unity, not some weird gender divide.

Sounds more like a benefit than anything else (selling tickets, etc)?!? I see benefits as a way to help out those that need financial help for medical needs.

Re: the wedding fundraiser sense of the term...

"More like Stag & Don't, amirite?"

I'll be here all night. Don't forget to tip the waitress.

I have never heard of this... who would think a fundraiser for your wedding is appropriate? Are you gonna fundraise for you house too?
