Jack and Jill's? Stag and doe's ?

Danielle, on March 15, 2017 at 8:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 76

I'm really curious what people's thoughts are. Have you attended any? Would you yourself have one? Are they common in your area? I'm from central mass and I just heard about them this year. I have never attended one but they sound kind of fun. What's your thoughts?

Who the fuck throws wedding fundraisers? Like a fundraiser to help pay for your wedding?

    How tacky.

    Is that really a thing?!

Yeah. Don't do that. They are tacky. If you can't afford to host a wedding then go to a courthouse and get married.

I seriously can't even understand why one would think a wedding fundraiser is ok...

That is a thing and fairly common where I live. Worse people do that and still have a bachelor party. I don't get it at all. Where I'm from stags have raffles and entrance fees and the money collected pays off the cost of the event and any extra goes to the wedding.

I would never attend. The stories we've heard hear are all about the BP paying boatloads of money and being forced to work. No thanks. Plus, why the fuck would I panhandle for my wedding? Why would you panhandle for your wedding?!

My brother lives in Mass and told me about this, he got invited to one once. It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

@catlady-the BP is also required to supply the food and booze, sell tickets and get raffle prizes. There could also be a 50/50 draw.

That's great for a charity. A wedding is not a charity.

Is this a MA thing? I'm in western MA and I hear about Jack and Jill's all the time, but it seems like not many other people have?

It's basically a giant wedding fundraiser. You sell tickets to attend, and there are raffles, door prizes, etc. It's normally a big nighttime party with a DJ and drinks. Not like a shower, really.

ETA- Just to clarify, I'm not having one. I've just been invited (ie. solicited to buy tickets to) some.
