"I've never heard of a woman getting a wedding band AND e-ring"

So, the other day, FH tells me that, in regards to the woman having an engagement ring and then getting a band for the wedding day, that "90% of people don't do that." He is convinced that every married woman he knows only has one ring and he's never heard of anyone having two rings, and that it's...

So, the other day, FH tells me that, in regards to the woman having an engagement ring and then getting a band for the wedding day, that "90% of people don't do that." He is convinced that every married woman he knows only has one ring and he's never heard of anyone having two rings, and that it's just something made up by women wanting more diamonds. Well, that's probably true lol BUT I feel it's the complete opposite!! I've just always been under the impression that it is standard "tradition" that you propose with one ring, and then during your engagement you shop for two bands- why else would they sell wedding sets?- and I know he is WAY over exaggerating in his "facts" but.... Is anyone here deciding to forget the band and just stick with your engagement ring?

I'm not trying to be like "I want two rings, damnit!" because I really wouldn't care either way, I'm just trying to prove that I'm right and he's crazy, hahaha

    First the engagement ring

    then the wedding ring

    next the anniversary ring

    then the suffer ring

Thats what my FH thinks about the whole ring thing Smiley smile

Hmm, has he traveled out of the US lately? I ask this bc I'm currently living in Europe (Germany) & we recently got engaged. Everyone here asks why I have a diamond solitaire style ring & not just a band? I explain this is my engagement ring & a band will come later (actually were having two bands, one for each side of my e ring to represent our two culture & our two ceremonies). Anyway, after speaking with people from all over the world here I have learned that a separate E ring is mainly a North American tradition. Here the tradition is to propose with a band, she wears it on her Left hand until the wedding & then it gets moved to the right hand (the right hand is the married hand in European Countries). So needless to say most women here are taken aback by my Ering & the fact I will still get another ring & in my case two.

He's nuts. You get the e-ring as a promise, and the wedding band to commemorate the day of ceremony.
