Is your ring insured?

Is your ring insured? If so, with whom? We have the typical jewelry store insurance, per say, but I am looking at Jeweler's Mutual to fully insure my ring. Anyone else?

I insured mine through Jewelers Mutual, they are very fairly priced. I also found that they cover a lot more and have more choices as far as deductibles than home owners or renters policies offer.

I have a separate policy on it with my insurance company that covers any and every way I could damage or lose it. They won't cover it on my Renter's because the ring exceeds the max jewelry allowance.

Yeah, mine is insured with Jeweler's Mutual. FS just renewed it for another year. It covers loss, theft, and fire.

Wow I'm really thinking mine is the only one not insured! But can you insure a ring that was bought decades ago?

Mine is insured. We have jewlers mutual too. They were way cheaper than homeowners/rental insurance and had better coverage. I had my ring for a few weeks before it was insured and i was afraid to leave the house with it.

I just called Jewelers Mututal, application is on line, once application is completed they send you email as to where to send appraisal, etc. appraisal dated within the last 18 months sent to them within 10 days. once they get everything and it meets their guidelines, you're covered from the date of appication . Cost is based on where you live. It covers loss, theft, damage and mysterious disappearances....lol..

calling took me less than 5 minutes for a quote and to get my questions answered., now I have to do application.

Mine is also Jewlers Mutually insured. Ours was a custom made and I wouldn't let it leave the store without insurance. My jewler also told us thats who insures his store and you can take it to any jewler to get repaired if you do have a problem.

Heather, you'll just need to get a current appraisal of your ring. If it was purchased decades ago (like mine) it HAS gone up in value and should be insured. If it is not covered under your homeowners, you can get a jewelry rider added to your homeowners policy.

For those who insured your ring through your homeowner's policy, please PLEASE make sure that the jewelry limit is high enough to cover the value of your ring, that the coverage is Replacement Cost, as well as All Risk! Many HO policies have a $3k-$5k sub-limit under the contents portion of the policy for jewelry items. You can "schedule" it out separately, or purchase a blanket limit up to a certain dollar amount. Just trying to prevent any broken hearts in the event of a loss situation when you are already devastated.

Yep, we have a jewelry rider on our homeowners policy for our rings & watches. we got the rider because we wanted higher coverage than just the standard jewelry coverage.
