Is this centerpiece too big? Will i even notice my flowers the day of? diy vs real?

Megan, on January 29, 2018 at 7:04 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 31

I made a centerpiece with on-sale florals from AC Moore, and I was told by two people it looked too big, but a few of my other BMs and FH raved about it. I have to go in person to each AC Moore as they don't do online orders, and I called and they won't do a bulk order. Is it too much? Missing anything? I'll add the picture below.

I also looked into afloral today. I can do 4 BM bouquets and mine for ~$120 or so, which is a crazy difference to the $650 I was quoted with real flowers. I also need some flowers for my arch way at my venue, I'll attach a picture. Does anyone know if I can just make two bouquets to attach to it? I think that's what the picture looks like?

What other neat things have you guys done with flowers? Feedback please? Are the savings worth it in the end, will I even care about flowers the day of? In the end, saving $400 seems pretty appealing and I'd rather put it into the bar or our honeymoon/the bar, I suppose.

Thank you.

I think the centerpiece is too wide. It will take up a lot of room on the table. You could probably attach the bouquet on the arch with rope

If I cut the flowers shorter would it take up less room? I have a green foam ring in the middle so I don't mind either way as long as it's not showing.

    Thank you!

There is a guide on the internet to understand the size of a place setting in comparison to table size, from that you can determine the max size of your centerpiece.

I think with a round table the size of that centerpiece would be just fine. It's beautiful

Without knowing the width if the centerpiece, just guestimating from the photo you should be fine....when I worked at a florist we sometimes double checked on tables in the planning stages also to show to couples
With the arch you could use rope, but wire could do it with blending in better as well

PHXBride - I just scoured the internet for the last 15 minutes. I think I saw that it should be a 1/3 of the size but I may have read the diagram wrong. Thank you though!

Ashley - Thank you so much!

AtoK - That's smart, thank you. I'm touring our venue with FH in a few weeks, maybe I'll sneak a tape measurer in. I'd say it's ~14" large for the centerpiece, if I remember correctly. I'm not home to check.

What kind of wire would be strong enough to hold it up? I like that idea!

Floral wire is available in green and white. Check old time pottery if you have one or micheals. Hobby lobby etc. It’s really strong!

I like the center piece but i do think its too much. If you want flowers you could sprinkle flower petals around the lantern instead

I love your centerpieces! Just make sure your tables are large enough. It should look great!

And I think two bouquets would work on the arch. Why not?

I love your centerpiece, this is what I am thinking of doing as well. I think it will fit just fine on round tables.

Can I ask where you got the lantern? Is that also from AC Moore?

I agree that the centerpiece is too big. Lift up the lantern on some foam, this way, the flowers become the base. Nice flowers!!

Without seeing it on the actual table it's hard to say but it does look like it may be a little large... a lot winds up on tables, even besides the main plate for dinner, butter dishes, baskets of bread, salad dressings, wine glasses, water glasses, drinks from the bar... plus stuff like cameras, phones, small purses... I would error on the side of caution and go smaller. Think of it this way, smaller means less materials so it will be easier to get what you need Smiley smile
