Is there a difference between silk flowers and those you can purchase at the dollar store?

Mrs. Turner2B, on July 8, 2010 at 2:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

I've seen silk flowers and they pretty much look like those you can find at the dollar store. Or have I not come accross very nice silk flowers?? I'm considering using fake flowers for just the candy buffet table and the food buffet table but am wondering if they will look too fake. I want to use hydrangeas and don't want to take a chance of them wilting if I were to get real ones.

I've worked at the Dollar General Store/Market Store. & their flowers are Silk. LOL. I got mine off of the Internet & they are the same quality as that of the ones at the Dollar General. & Hobby Lobby's look the same as the Teeter's Brand Flowers found in some Dollar General Market stores. You can see the ones I used in my bouquet thread, they are from Hobby Lobby & the black are from eFavorMart.com, eFavorMart.com has amazing ones, all colors, very very cheap and all shipping, regardless of amount if $4.95 Smiley smile

I got mine at michaels on sale sometimes silk flowers from a craft store are a bit better quality just because they are a little bit thicker but not much really I would have got mine at the dollar tree but they didn't have the colors I wanted but I didn't end up paying that much since I got them on sale anyway for about $4 each bush of 8-10 roses.Ah you get married a day after me! how exciting!

I am going to be completely honest I have worked with ALOT of silk florals, and they are ALL the same as DG and DollarTree. (with the exception of the ones made to feel "real".)

I have done 100s of bridal-bouquets. Its like a side job, & I love it! Smiley smile

Girls..I knew it!!! It's the same. So if this is true....I'm gonna go back to the dollar tree where I saw my hydrangeas and will bring them home to do a "Mock" arrangement and see if it will work for my candy buffet table. My reception centerpieces, sweetheart table flowers and bridal party flowers are all real but I don't want to spring for real flowers for the dandy buffet or menu buffet either.

I have purchased "permanents" in silk or wax from professional florists...THOSE are much better Especially cala lilies and gerbera daisies---can barely tell the difference.

You could put the silk hydrangeas in the vases with a few fresh greens.

I have gotten some good ones at Michaels, but some are better than others. It depends on the flower.
