Is it rude to have a small cake that doesn't feed everyone?

Should probably explain that. We WILL have cupcakes and/or macarons as well for everyone. But we are considering just a very small cake for the cutting, is that okay or should I definitely plan on getting a cake that serves all guests?

I don't think it's rude. Having said that, I would prefer a slice of cake over a cupcake. I, personally, would get a small wedding cake and then use a larger sheet cake as dessert for the guests.

Leah- It was definitely weird, and since some got it and others didn't it just didn't sit well. However, I understand that it can be more cost effective to do cupcakes so I wouldn't side eye it or anything. Also, some cupcakes can be really good! Like the cupcakes my baker made for our tasting where AMAZING and I wouldn't be disappointed at all if I was served them instead of cake.

This has become really popular. It's not rude at all as long as you have enough sweets for your guests.

Leah- I definitely don't see anything wrong with that then. I'm sure it will be great! Like I said, when we did the tasting with our baker she gave us cupcakes as examples and they were SO good. It can definitely be done well.

I remember a thread on this topic a few month ago; in that one the OP was planning to have the cut cake for the bride and groom made by a professional baker, and serve cupcakes from Sam's club to the guests. That was called out as rude, because of the discrepancy in quality between what the guests and the couple were eating.

If you purchase your cupcakes from the same bakery that is creating your cake, I don't see an issue.

I think it's fine. We went to a wedding recently where they did that, and the cupcakes were amaaazing.

As long as their is enough for everyone- have at it.

But I'm with AMW- I really don't care for cupcakes.

Cake trumps cupcakes IMHO. I've had good cupcakes- but they are REALLY expensive- and they are specialty niche cupcakes. odds are higher the cake is more edible- can you do pretty cake and a sheet cake in the back to serve?

A small cutting cake is fine with cupcakes. A lot of people are doing cupcakes now. They even do cake pops too. Witch I think is cool.

I think it will be fine! We decided on an 8" round cheesecake for ourselves and mini cheesecakes and 1/2 size filled cupcakes for everyone else. We are also doing a dessert bar with bars and cookies (and maybe even a croquembouch!)

I don't think it's rude! I'm doing a 3 tier cake, cupcakes, and cake pops. I will have enough cupcakes for everyone but those who want cake can also have cake as well if they really don't like cupcakes for some reason.

As long as I got a cupcake I wouldn't care how big your cake was!

Following. This is what I'm thinking about doing... the lady we are ordering from her cake and cupcakes are amazing! The reason for considering cupcakes is because I know some people prefer cupcakes over cake and my daughters especially prefer cupcakes.

I don't really care. As long as there's dessert of some sort and it's not some shitty grocery store cake/cupcakes, I'm fine.

I think it's fine because cupcakes and cake are pretty much the same thing. As a guest, I might prefer a cupcake. Just remember to get more cupcakes because people often take more than one.

For us, we went with a small cutting cake and then several cupcake options for guests. The venue cake cutting fee for a regular cake was almost $400 and that's just flat out insane.

We had a small cake for us to cut, with cupcakes and cookies for guests.

We're doing a cake that will be enough for about half of our guests and then 5 dozen mini cupcakes (they are, imho, better tasting than the cake because of the bakeries kick ass frostings!) and then a bunch of other desserts for those who don't like cake. We have enough dessert servings for everyone to have 3 small servings.
