Is it okay to wear a ball gown wedding dress at a beach wedding?!

Alison, on June 30, 2016 at 11:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 48

This was the original dress I fell in love with. I am not the one in the picture. It was a review photo. However when we decided on doing a destination wedding I tried finding a more light and airy and beachy looking dress. But I have always dreamed of a beautiful ball gown with a long train and I just can't help but want to wear this!!! Would it look okay being on the beach and having a very small wedding or is it just too much?

Wouldn't the sand get everywhere and the ocean breeze blow everything into different directions? I just don't see this working.

I say go for it. You can get away with how it looks on the beach, totally. The train dragging aound in the sand though...that would drive me nuts all day.

Downside is you worry about it getting dirty and walking may be more difficult but I don't seen rule that you have to wear a "beachy" dress for a beach wedding. Just make sure you feel beautiful, are comfortable, and it's within your budget and I saw go for it. But that's just me.

I think ultimately it's your wedding. Yes, there are themes... but your over all theme should be happiness! In other words, go for it. Don't have, "Should have, would have, could haves" on your wedding day.

It's your wedding, and you should have what you dream. That said, I'd aim for a practical back up plan and steps to mitigate sand, like a broad, quality runner. You may also be able to have a good seamstress make the train detachable or bustle that train and add a detached one so sand and wind concerns are negated.

I think the dress that you wear is one of those things that's 100% up to you. If you love it, then go for it!

I feel like this is one of the true instances where you can do the "it's your wedding, you do exactly what you want". That dress is beautiful. And I think it would look great on a beach. Maybe bustle it after the wedding to keep it from getting caught in the sand too much? But it's beautiful!

Go for it! I'm getting married on the beach and I'm wearing a formal gown...it may be a little much for the beach but I fell in love with it!

I don't see anything wrong with wearing a ball gown on the beach. Any long dress on the beach is going to drag to some extent, there's no getting around it. As long as you're okay with that plus the potential wind factor, go for it!

My cousin just got married on a beach in hawaii in a place fit n flare/trumpet style. They had planned on a chapel here in WA but elopedish. The bottom of the dress got icky, but she still looks absolutely amazing. As long as you feel beautiful, that's all that matters.

I'd probably question why (or would have in the past) merely for practicality and functionality issues but ultimately- you're the one who has to be happy- so wear what you want.
