Is it ok to forgo wedding favors?

I'm having a difficult time coming up with a wedding favor that I like...everything that I've seen is too casual but a good price range, or it's elegant enough but not very unique and it's usually pricey. Is it ok to just not have favors? I feel like they aren't a huge deal but I don't want to make...

We also think that they are a waste and most people just leave them on the tables so we are making a donation to the american cancer society in FH mother's honor (she passed from lung cancer). We will have poems at each setting explaining the donation and that it has been made in luie of traditional favors.

@JulyBride How much were the shot glasses? I thought about doing shot glasses or koozies, but it was kinda pricey.

We're doing a donation, but I'm "supplementing" it w/m&ms. Both our names start w/"M" so I designed a tag that says thanks and is signed M&M. I thought it would be cheap and cute but it's getting more costly than I thought. Either way, I think my FH is hoping many will get left behind lol!

We as well are doing little boxes with candy at each place setting. That way its not too personal and they can eat the candy right then and there if they so choose...I'd much rather be left with candy than with a bunch of other favors we will never use.

I was thinking about using these bookmarks, they are only 52 cents a piece but FH thinks that we don't need to give favors. The thing is our wedding is at 11 am with the reception directly after. We are serving a light buffet lunch with mostly finger foods and as of now there will be no dancing b/c FH thinks that no one will dance anyways so I felt we should do something but after reading the above post maybe I will cancel the favors

We aren't doing favors... waste of money and the entertainment & food is enough of a "gift" for the night. Smiley smile

We heard from everyone that favors were a waste of money so we are skipping them.

I have to ask the ? what ever happened to giving out matchbooks at a reception that had the bride and grooms name on them with the wedding date...,and everyones house that you went over had a junk drawer full of them, but they always came in handy...

or is that ? just showing my age lol?

LOL ursula! I think those personalized matchbooks were the beginning of this favour-fad. In my girlhood, everyone (well, the girls anyway) simply took home a little piece of wedding cake so that they could "dream of their future husband". In England and Canada wedding cake was always fruitcake wrapped it in a doily to put iunder your pillow; in the U.S. they hcame up with little white boxes because the white cake used there for wedding cakes would make a god-awful mess under your pillow otherwise!

The match-books were a good idea because everyone in the 50's and 60's smoked after dinner. Remember ash-trays on the dinner-table? And "non-smoking" sections in restaurants (usually two tables with no-smoking signs on them, right next to the second-had smoke from all the other tables)? And it wasn't just wedding matchbooks in the junk drawer; every car dealership and pub used them for advertising! You're right: it was mighty useful! NOW I have to BUY matchbooks :-( LOL!

We made a donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. They're going to make table cards for us to put on each of the tables. My mom is a 2-time breast cancer survivor (17 years) and we thought this would be a great idea. Many people just leave the favors behind anyway. It will say:

In loving memory of those who have fought and lost,

in loving appreciation for those who have fought and won,

and in loving support of those who are still fighting ...

In lieu of favors, a donation was made in honor of *my mom's name* to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

We won't be doing favors unless we find the money to have a photo booth. We went to a wedding recently that had one, and it was so cool. We got to keep a copy of the pictures, and a second copy went into a book for the bride and groom. Unlike many favors which I just end up tossing or sending to Goodwill, we will actually keep this one. I'm not going to spend my money on something that people aren't really going to appreciate anyway.

Honestly, think of any wedding you've been to in the last 2 years. Do you remember what their favors were? Because I sure as heck don't lol. We're not doing favors really- we'll be putting hershey's kisses & hugs on the tables w/labels on the bottom (total for the entire project under $100), and placing them on the tables for people to nibble on while they wait for cake after dinner. If there's lots left behind, we'll just give them out 2 weeks later on Halloween, lol!
