Is it normal to have additional expenses from the caterer after you sign an agreement?

Just wondering if my experience with my caterer is normal. I've never used a caterer or planned any kind of event before. Since I booked my caterer for my wedding almost a year ago there has been multiple added expenses. When booking my caterer, they gave me a contract of expenses and I asked if I could expect any additional expenses or if they needed anything else for the day of the wedding. They said everything was outlined in the contract. Since signing this contract (almost a year ago)they've needed us to provider them with their own generator(that cost $300 to rent) and now just weeks before the wedding they are needing us to provide the tables for the buffet and also saying there would be an additional cost (of $195) to have floor-length linens. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this normal? Just wondering if this added stress is my fault?

No, this is not normal. Check your contract carefully and see what is spelled out in it. Hopefully it is very detailed and you can point this out to them.

Some caterers do charge for linens but that should have been outlined in your quote and I have never heard of paying for a generator before. Have you already given them a deposit? If not I would try to find a new caterer

I would expect your contract to itemize what exactly is included and if linens and tables are not included then you would be expected to provide those. I have never heard of needing a generator. Are you getting married in a place where there is no power?

It does kind of sound like it's costs they're adding in that should have been discussed beforehand
