Is it crazy to get married on a thursday?

CostumedBride, on August 12, 2013 at 5:07 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

We really want to do Halloween because of our theme but is it really crazy to get married on a Thursday and not a Saturday? I don't want our guests to be mad if they cant make it.

It's not crazy but be prepared that many guests (especially those with kids) might say no. What about a Halloween themed wedding a few days before or after?

A friend of mine got married on a Thursday this past June and 250 people showed up.

    So no, it's not crazy.

Well we want to have them bring the kids to trick or treat. Our food/dessert stations will be set up so you have to say trick or treat to be served. So they don't miss out on the fun of the holiday.

I think it's great you're including something for the kids but many kids might just want to go out with friends. Just be prepared for some possibly angry comments from parents

Since your wedding party is fully aware they might be going down the aisle dressed up as condiments, I am going to take a wild stab and guess your friends and family are used to your life choices and ideas. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do NOT take that as a jab. It's 100% NOT! I'm just saying people know you. So if you wanted a Thursday wedding, and though it's not conventional, you will have some guests moan and grown show up or decide not to.

On your other post you said you wanted the reception to be a big Halloween party, and that sounds like fun... but if it's on a Thursday, then most of your guests will possibly be coming after work and have to go back to work on Friday morning- so they may be willing to spend less time celebrating and partying at the reception.

I say nothing wrong with a Thursday. I'm getting married on a Tuesday; the people who really want to be there will be there, and it'll be great. Smiley smile

Jessica again with a good point.

Tell your VIPs about the date, like, NOW. They are the most important ones when it comes to choosing your wedding date. Other than them, people are welcome to decline and you'll save money. Easy peasy.

I am getting married on a Thursday. My RSVP deadline is today and I only received 3 declines. I am having 103 guests that accepted (not including Wedding Party) and I still have to stalk a few people. So, no I think the people who truly want to be there for you will. I wanted a smaller wedding, I am perfectly happy with the outcome of my wedding count. In total-including wedding party my guest list was 136.

If children are allowed then I say do it! Also you'd be surprised at how many people may come!

I'd go. People tend to stay up later on Halloween anyways.

I am actually getting married on Halloween. and you save so much money because its not a weekend wedding. My guest got save the dates at X-mas and I feel if they want to be there, They will.

SN its our 10 year anniversary is why I chose the date, it will be very traditional with a lot of fun with a photobooth and candy bar but my rehearsal dinner will be a costume party.

It's Halloween! Yes, it's fine. I'd party my ass off if I were a guest. It sounds fun!

Normally I'd say it's not crazy for a weekday wedding. However, you're just over 2 months out. That's not really a lot of notification time for people.

We're Halloween next year, so it's on a Friday and our STD's are going out probably right after Christmas if not sooner. We have a decent amount of people that need to make travel arrangements so we want them to have plenty of notice.

Eh, my sister got married on a Tuesday. My cousin got married on a Monday. People came, it was wonderful. Not everyone will be able to make it, but the people who really care will come.

Its not crazy but I probably would be unable to go. You also will have people with children who will not be able to go.

    I agree with Jac-Jac...normally I would say no biggy...but 2 months isn't a lot of notice!

I think it's fine. It may cut down on guest turnout but I don't see anything wrong with it. My friends had a thursday wedding and still had 125 people.
