Is 4 years too early to start planning?

My boyfriend and I have decided that we are gonna get married in 4 years, enough time for me to finish college. He's more less proposed but there's no engagement ring (He did give me a promise ring 2 months into dating). Is 4 years too early to start planning. I know I can't book anything yet, but...

Save for your future throughout college, not just your wedding. 4 years is way too long but I have had a savings account since I was 17. It was not started at all for purpose of a wedding but just because its smart to squirrel away some money.

Looking for ideas is fine. Don't book anything or make any decisions until a year away from your wedding date. You only need a year to plan. Let yourself be flexible as many things will change over the years.

I'd say you can scope out venues, and plan a budget, and start saving...but that's about it...

Start saving for your wedding, start thinking about things you like, but don't book, buy or officially start planning. You will likely change your mind within 4 years of what you think you want. I never hurts to start researching things, but I wouldn't bother vendors with too many questions if you're not intending to book. By research I mean reading articles, get a book from the library, etc.

Also, I'd like to add that if you're this ready to plan one day in your life, you might want to re-evaluate why you're getting married in the first place. Slow your roll and concentrate on your actual relationship instead of the party you want to have in 4 years to celebrate that relationship.

Four years is definitely too early to start planning but not saving or dreaming, like others have said.

And not to be offensive but it seems like you're just out of high school and going a little fast in your mind with the relationship. Enjoy living and learning about yourselves as individuals before planning your lives together. The key to a happy healthy relationship is knowing who you are and what you REALLY want in life. Also, I know a promise ring is amazing but it's not the same as an engagement ring or proposal. Take your time and dream a little first.

I'm sorry but he gave you a promise ring 2 months into dating and you'll be in college for the next 4 years??? Yes way too soon. I wish you the best but the odds are not in your favor. From experience I can tell you to be realistic and don't hate when people tell you that. Try to prove them wrong but DO NOT have blinders on. Trust me on this.

I would say it's never too early to start looking and getting ideas!! Our wedding is finally coming up but we've been engaged for almost 3 years. It's nice to have so much time to gather your thoughts and start looking at things- but I would say hold off on deposits or anything until around 2 years out! I changed my mind from a beach/nautical themed wedding to a country chic wedding- so don't commit to anything until it's closer to time!

Start saving money. maybe start a Pinterest board and casually get ideas here and there. no need to start stressing yourself out so soon. I paced myself over the span of two years, going to college/grad school while planning the wedding, and everything came together well. if you start now, so much will change not only about trends but possibly even about your taste! If I got married a few years ago I don't know that it would have been the same wedding. and the wedding you "start with" is never the wedding you get. it evolves. no point in starting the stress so soon. like other posters said you will be sick of wedding by the time it happens if you start now.

Yes too early to plan. I got engaed last year in April and our wedding is in March of 2015. Idk about you but it will drive me insane. Trends do change, prices change, and even you. Focus on your studies and relationship. I'm still in school and the planning makes me so anxious, with school, life, bills. Ugh. Please wait atleast 2 years before your wedding to plan.

Way too early. Don't even look at pinterest. Go to school, get a job and then see if you still want to get married.

Way too early. Just start saving money. Not only for the wedding, but for a house, student loans etc.

So many things could change in 4 years. I'd say start no earlier than the 18 month mark.

You could maybe think about your venue, and look at things online and in magazines of what you think you want, but if you start actually planning, I guarantee you will change your mind closer to the date.
