Is 4 months too early to send out invites?

kav1994, on February 29, 2016 at 11:47 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

Wedding is July 16th.

My RSVP date is June 1st (gives stragglers a couple weeks to RSVP before final numbers are due) A lot of out of state guests.

Is middle of March too early?!

I was thinking middle of March of beginning of April.

Thinking maybe just send out out-of-state invites early?!

Did you send out save the dates? If so, I'd send out the invites mid to late April.

Perfect! Then I think mid April is good! Gives them 1.5 months to reply.

Typically it's 6-8 weeks ahead of the wedding, especially if you sent STDs. I'd wait till May.

Yeah, invites go out 6-8 weeks prior, with RSVPs due 2-3 weeks prior. If people haven't responded by the due date, you call them for an answer.

March is way too early. I have no clue what my schedule will be like in mid-July. People will likely wait to respond until it gets closer, then possibly forget to reply. I would aim to have invites arrive the beginning of May, that way people have roughly a month to respond. But even that is somewhat early.

Our wedding is 6/3. 95% out of town guests. We sent out save the dates in mid October and we just put our invites in the mail. I don't think it honestly matters. If people are traveling from out of town, they have to buy plane tickets in advance so they will already know if they are coming or not.

Do you have a lot of out of town guests? I think March might be a little early if most of your guests are local or semi-local. I usually think between 6-8 weeks before rsvp is plenty of time.

Just coming back to add...don't send them at separate times. If Aunt Sue gets her invite a month before Aunt Jane because Sue is out of town, they'll talk, and people will get offended thinking they've been B-listed or something.

Our wedding is July 3rd. We didn't send out save the dates (just word of mouth, emails, etc) and I'm planning to send the invitations out either the last week of March or first week of April. All of our guests are out of towners, and a few are even out of the country. And a few people have a hard time getting time off of work within the 6-8 week period that is apparently the accepted timeframe. It depends on your situation. In my opinion, the more time people have to plan, the easier it is on them.

Lol.... I did everything my way and not necessarily based on timeline. I sent my invitations about 4 months ahead of time because 70% of my guests were out of town and out of country. Only you know your guests and you should make your decision based on that.

Coming from someone who sent hers early, don't. We sent ours 12/04 with an RSVP date of 02/10. Five days before the RSVP date, we had over 30% of our guest list that hadn't responded. People lost the response cards, lost the invitation or forgot to respond because I sent them 11 weeks out.

Eta: we sent STDs too. The purpose of an STD is so people have the opportunity to make travel arrangements.

My wedding is also July 16th. I'm sending mine out mid March due to having a lot of out of town guests. The republican convention happens 2 days after my wedding so some hotels are already sold out. I want to give my guests time to find accommodations.

My wedding is July 9th and I've just sent out my invites with RSVP date of June 1st. We did not send save the dates. We've already had people RSVP, we have a larger wedding and I just wanted to get them out as it was one less thing to think about

Our RSVP date is June 3rd (gilmore girls, anyone?) and I will send invites mid-april so they arrive late April, even though my mom keeps bugging me to send them earlier!
