Invited to Jack and Jill party but not the wedding

Johanna, on July 9, 2017 at 1:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 57

FH and I just got a Facebook invite for a Jack and Jill party for one of his co-workers. I realized it's basically a fund raiser for their wedding and its $55 per "ticket" to attend. We are not invited to their wedding. After being on wedding wire for several months and learning about all kinds of etiquette, my reaction was eww. super tacky. Has anyone else experienced this?

Wait. You were invited... and you have to pay for the ticket...? Gross!

I agree Jack 'n Jills are mucho tacky but apparently it's part of the deal to invite people not necessarily invited to the wedding. From what I've read, they're a social event in small towns as much as anything else.

Yep, that's all part of the hurricane of rudeness that is a Jack n Jill.

People will say they are 'normal' in their area, but there is nothing normal about throwing a fundraiser for a wedding...and inviting non guests.

I wouldn't go if they paid ME.

@Sarah yes we were both invited and it's $55 per ticket so it would be $110 for the both of us to attend... I have my own wedding to pay for on my own so yeah we won't be going lol

I've never even heard of a Jack and Jill party (maybe I live under a rock or in the deepest trench for not knowing)... But that seems pretty off...

I guess I'm a little slow on the uptake because I had thought a jack and Jill shower was just a shower for both the bride and groom and I was thinking "what's so wrong about a coed shower?!" I didn't realize it was a paid event! How tacky!

I looked it up and I guess it started in Canada like Kate said and it's like a fundraiser with Raffles and stuff to help "fund" the wedding.. I guess it has spread to central NY Smiley sad

What the heck! A wedding is not a necessity! Just go to the courthouse. I can't believe this a thing. I wouldn't go either.

I'd never heard of this until WW. But I can tell you that if I were ever invited to one, I would not even consider it. They may as well have a GFM.

Fortunately this has never happened to me because these abominations don't happen in my area.

They are having a golf tournament and the flyer says "limited space available but all welcome".. not sure what that means? Like you can pay but there might not be room for you to golf but come and pay anyways lol I don't even golf so..

Wow! I also just thought it was a co Ed shower. How rude!! Not a chance I would be going. Probably wouldn't even go if I was invited to the wedding.

I've heard of Jack and Jill showers where the bride and groom and any SOs of shower guests come but to buy tickets as a fundraiser? That is beyond tacky and I wouldn't go
