What makes it worse is that FH is irritated bc he knows that they are in the process of renovating their house so he thinks the money is secretly for their house renovations... Ugh

I have never heard of this. Just when you think it can't get any worse....I would never in a million years attend under any circumstances. I wouldn't care if it was $10 or my best friend. I'll save my charity dollars for people who really need the $-not to fund someone's wedding. Here's an idea-if you can't afford a big wedding, don't have one.

I hadn't heard of these parties until joining WW. This is why when someone posts they're having a Jack and Jill shower everyone starts asking if they mean they're having a fundraiser where tickets are sold.

    So awkward.

I think jack and jills are a horrible idea. I agree with the other pps. It's pretty much a fundraiser for you're wedding. I live in ct and lots of people do it. I feel like that's asking to much. People arnt made of money

Jack and Jill's are very popular in my area. They will push tickets to whoever will buy them. I know a lot of people who buy tickets to them and never even plan on attending. The bridal party, parents, and bride and groom usually all sell tickets. So they make it around to a lot of people who will not be invited to the wedding.

Wow! Wasn't aware these were a thing. That's awkward to have to buy a ticket to a shower and not be invited to the wedding.

That's expensive for a Jack and Jill... I guess their are diff perspectives depending how you look at it and how people set it up. I am doing a jack and Jill but it is $25 for a single and $40 for a couple. The ticket includes catered food, a pig roast, beer and wine, dj, and we have raffles. It is to get everyone together to celebrate our wedding because we are unable to have everyone at our wedding. We are not having a shower or a stag as the Jack and Jill replaces it so we get no shower gifts and the stag which you sell tickets to and have raffle prices we are not having. We decided to do it together since we rather spend our celebration with each other instead of seperate and be able to invite friends and family. We paid for the catered food, wine and beer, dj and some raffles. Our bridal party helped with raffles and are helping set up and clean up since they do not need to throw a shower or stag. The ticket cost is to help go to the food, drinks, and entertainment at the jack and Jill! This is a party to have a great time with friends and family to celebrate us. If we were able to have everyone at are wedding we would, but since we can not this is how we decided to do it. We are not having a full expensive wedding. We are paying for it ourselves and it is not at a expensive venue We are not looking for people to pay for our weddding. We are also not looking to having an expensive wedding our goal is to not get in debt because of a wedding. It is one day celebrating our marriage, so we are having an out door wedding, which is becoming more than we planned, so we had to cut it off the head count, as their is many people we would love to be their. This was a way for us to get everyone together and have a great time.

Normally the bride and groom don't plan the party themselves. The wedding party plans the event for the couple as a substitute for the traditional bachelor/bachelorette parties. This is why there are tickets sold and people that buy them may or may not be invited to the actual wedding. It's not supposed to "fundraise" to pay for a wedding. I've been to a few of them, and they're actually a lot of fun. To be honest, I find drunk chicks running around with plastic penises and "bride to be" plastered all over themselves in the bar for a bachelorette party to be WAY tackier than a party you have the option of attending or not attending. ??

I love Jack and Jill's. They are so much fun! But 55 for a ticket is RIDICULOUS. I'm from MA and they are VERY common here. I mean who wants to sit at a boring bridal shower? Not me. I have been invited to JJ's where I was barely friends with the couple they just basically ran through their Friend List on FB, so didn't end up going to those. But if you are invited and know the couple well it changes the mood of the event. $20 pp tickets are ideal. Raffles, free beer, and food available as well as a DJ for the dance party after raffles! But ya 55....eh no thanks.
