Introduction and Bridal Shower Ideas

Krystal, on April 19, 2012 at 12:00 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

I thought I would hit one bird with two stones here. So I'll start with a brief introduction. Hi I'm Krystal Smiley smile I'll be 21 in June and I'm getting married on July 21, 2012. I'm the oldest of five siblings and live with my mom. I'm going to school to be a Kindergarten teacher. Also I have a love for dancing and have even had the opportunity to teach dance to 2-5 year old girls. I met my FH almost two years ago at church in a prayer circle. Our paths didn't cross until about 6 months later and we started talking here and there. Summer of 2011 we started hanging out and going to events together and had our first date. To my surprise he proposed to me the week before Christmas. We are getting married almost two years to the date of when we first met.

Ok advice needed... My best friend is getting the weekend before me and I am one of her BM. I have offered to throw her a bridal shower because she doesn't have a MOH. I have no idea what to do! :/ Any ideas? She is okay with lingerie.

Welcome! Ask her who she wants invited. Depending on who is invited, you may want to not do lingerie. Like if she has a super conservative old grandmother she wants there. Depending on the number of people, and how much the other BMs and you are willing to chip in, you figure out how much you have to spend. Than figure out what you want for food and decor. If what you want costs too much, adjust and change it until you can pay for it.

    Thank you. Smiley smile

I have never been to either and mine isn't until May and I think that there wouldn't be enough time between her's and mine to get ideas from mine... Uh does that make sense? lol If you would like I could use some ideas for a bachelorette party too Smiley smile

Congrats on your wedding soon!! 10 days!

    Pan,

I'm throwing her "friends" shower and a family friend is throwing the "family" shower. She has a very small guest list. I guess where I need help is ideas for food, decor, games, themes... etc.

    Thank you Smiley smile

the dress and veil game is super fun, I could probably play it every day and still enjoy it.

So is doing a trivia on her and the groom but you will have to email her to get the answers for a bunch of stuff.

Pick her favorite colour and go with that for decorations. Balloons, streamers, and paper plates etc. For food go with easy stuff veggie tray, fruit tray som dips, and maybe a few puff pastires.

Welcome to WW. As far as the shower, I've only been to 1 and it was a more formal full dinner and then opening gifts and making a veil from all of the bows and ribbons. It can really be whatever atmosphere you want though. Anything from brunch to appetizer type foods or coffee and desert. I'm no help on games though....

Thank you ladies. You have all been so helpful.

@SoontobeMrs.Smith I was thinking one of the colors of her wedding is that too much or is it wrong?

    Welcome Krystal

Using her wedding colors would be nice.

Theme: Having a shower theme is completely optional, but it can be a fun way to give bridal shower gift ideas to your guests. Some typical themes include: "Around the House", where guests are instructed to buy bridal shower gifts for a specific room in the bride's new home; "Kitchen Shower", where all gifts will be for the bride's new kitchen, "pamper the bride," spa items, etc....

    Gifts

As the bride opens each gift, it’s the maid of honor’s responsibility to write down who gives the bride what. All ribbons should be collected and attached on a paper plate; the bride can carry her “ribbon bouquet” during the wedding rehearsal.

    A few games

www.howtodothings.com/family-and-relationships/a2409-how-to-play-bridal-shower-games.html One of the easiest ones it "don't say 'wedding' "(or clothespin in this list) Everyone gets a clothespin (or 2) at the start of the shower, and if you catch someone say "wedding" you get all (or 1) of their clothespins. The guest with the most at the end is the winner.

Small gifts, or bridal shower favors, are sometimes given to the guests at the end of the shower as a memento. These can be bought or made, and personalized with the bride and groom's names. Some ideas include sachets, candy or chocolates, soaps, a small vase or picture frame.

I just hit up the dollartree. $1 bags: candles, nail polish & nail kit, lotions....

giant list of games... many are free to print off the one site I posted.

Hi, Krystal! I've been to a bunch and most have been brunchy ones. These are pretty easy to coordinate via an E-vite type deal, with a pot-luck approach. One person makes a quiche/egg dish, one gets the bagels and cream cheese, and from there is can be as fancy/casual as you or the bride like. Coordinating w/ her wedding colors (I think that's what you meant above) is a cute idea too. If there's any fun DIY-ing the shower could be a time to take care of one of the more enjoyable crafty things too.

@Hayley. Hahah I loved the games post! Definitely will be doing some of them! I also like the idea of the ribbon bouquet very cute. I might as my BM and MIL if we can do that at mine hehe I do think I will do her colors to keep it similar and they are very pretty too. Thank you for all the ideas.

@ Kathryn B. I have started an evite but haven't sent it... thought about a potluck but it's a very small list so I could easily provide food. I didn't think about the DIY ing at the shower but that's cute.. I'll ask if she has anything she needs done or help with. Smiley smile
