Intimate ceremony after big wedding? Reverse elopement?

Originally FH and I wanted to have a romantic elopement outside of the country. However due to covid19 outbreak and the concern of having our families, especially our grandparents attend our wedding, that wasn’t a possibility, as our grandparents aren’t in the best health. We are having a big wedding September 19 this year so that all of our families can make it. A few weeks ago, FH’s beloved grandfather passed away. Which now makes us carry on the big wedding in concerns for the rest of our grandparents. But the idea of eloping outside of the country is still in the back of my mind. I know couples who had elope have a 2nd wedding which is for the celebration of everyone. My question is, if couples can elope and have a big celebration later, why can’t we do it the other way around? I am thinking of having a small intimate “wedding/elopement” with just me & my FH, 1 year after the big wedding celebration in Italy. Where we can also celebrate our honeymoon.

No one said you can’t. It literally doesn’t affect anyone else, not sure why anyone would even have an opinion on it.

Why not? You could have a private elopement/vow renewal somewhere romantic in Italy. What you would want for that ceremony as far as officiants, “witnesses” would be entirely up to you as you would already be legally married. If that’s your vision I don’t see why you can’t do that at some point!

All of this. I personally don't understand the need to invent new terms for vacations like "reverse elopement", but it certainly doesn't affect me or anyone you know, so go forth with confidence.

It'd technically be a vow-renewal elopement and I think it'd be a fantastic idea! I know a lot of couples who do this for their 5, 10, 20-year anniversary, but it's also great for a 1-year anniversary, especially in this uncertain times.
