Instead of cheese/fruit and cracker trays for appetizers... this could be fun? Opinions please.

Sara, on June 14, 2012 at 4:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 28

Ok, so I just came up with this idea and I'm wondering if it's too crazy or ppl will think I'm being cheap or just not like it. I'm not doing it to be cheap b/c it'll cost me about the same as doing cheese/fruit/cracker trays for appetizers, but I think it's too cute. My ceremony starts @ 6, and dinner is being served @ 8pm. In between the BP will be taking pics and stuff- but in bewteen would it be enough snacks to have a pop-corn machene and little bags of pop-corn during the cocktail hour? Or if I did that, should I serve something else w/it- but what? What do you guys think?

So your cocktail hour will be at 7.....me personally popcorn machine wouldn't be enough...especially if people haven't gotten a chance to eat something they would be looking for something else to snack on so while it is a cute idea I would have something else with it and that something else would most likely be cheese display/fruit display/cracker display/bread display/vegetable display...something along those lines doesn't have to be all of those but just something

What if I did cheese/fruit skweres with the cotton candy and pop-corn? I just think the trays are so stale and listless... I wanna inject some fun Smiley smile

I like the more traditional option of cheese and crackers, veggies, etc. Could you have this as the reception progresses? After people do the formal eating, they might want something to munch on depending on how late you are going!

Super cute! I don't think it's enough on its own though, not at that time of day. As a guest I would rather have something more substantial and filling, like the fruit/cheese/crackers. That might just be me - I can't eat stuff like cotton candy or popcorn on an empty stomach, it gives me a tummy ache. Smiley smile

It's a fun treat though! It would be a really awesome after-dinner or late night snack, or favor.

I think it is cute, I would have never thought about doing this. If you do this, you may still need some other appetizers. since you are doing carnival like snacks, you could do the mini hotdogs, or pigs n a blanket.

I like the fruit and cheese skewers! And having popcorn and cotton candy is a delightful change from the normal appetizers. I say do both and have fun! I would enjoy it if I were attending!

I just worry that the fresh produce will get wilty or soggy b/c my BP and I will be prepairing them ourselves the night before... and have to set them out either just before or just after the ceremony and in a hurry- cuz we'll be kinda busy. lol. I'm not sure.... I like the idea, but I don't want ppl to be too crabby from hunger by dinner time.

I definitely like the fruit cheese skewers and veggie cups...is there someone else you can hand them to so they can set them out so you don't have to worry about them? You definitely don't want crabby people at your wedding

Sara D., I love popcorn, but I would have to say your second options would be the better one with cheese/fruit skeweres, cotton candy and pop-corn

I don't think little PB&Js are totally nuts if it fits your whole menu and theme. We had mini reuben sandwiches at our cocktail hour and people loved them. My dad ate about five of them, he was almost too full for dinner.

Well it's an OOT wedding, and so our guest list is minimal. There will probably be more people there IN the wedding than attending it. lol. So- I think I'm not sure who I could ask to do it.... besided BP or my folks. My mom or step-mom or both will probably end up doing it, but I don't want them to have to "prep" anything- I just want them to be able to set it out, make it look pretty and be done. We're doing the entire thing at an event home- so this stuff will have to fit into a fridge and be good to stay over night- hence I'm worried about things getting brown or soggy (fresh veggies and fruits)

In the end, I'll probably just get cheese/cracker/fruit trays- they're easy and will stay over night even though I feel so BLAH about them Smiley smile

I like the idea but not for cocktails. It seems more like something you could do during the dancing portion. You could even combine it with dessert and do a popcorn bar and serve different flavors of popcorn.

Krisaliscous- our dinner menu isn't super sweet or spactacular- we're having a beef and chicken option, seafood alfreado pasta, salad bar, steamed veggies and different breads (buffet). Nothing too special- but the caterer comes highly reccomended and his pics make the food look way better and fancier than they sound. I thought the PB&J's would just be a cute thing to do, out of the norm.

Yeah, maybe I'll have little PB&J's preped and set them out for late night snacks. That's easy, cost friendly and super cute Smiley smile
