Ink for thumbprint guestbook question

Lirana, on April 29, 2013 at 2:50 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10

We are doing a thumbprint tree guest book that I am drawing myself. For those of you who have done some sort of thumbprint guest book, what type of stamp pad did you get? I know I want something that contains archival ink. I ran into a lady at Hobby Lobby that told me we don't want something that is pigmented because it needs to be heat set. Any suggestions?

This is where I ordered mine. She is the same person doing my tree print for our guest book. She's sold quite a few of them and I haven't seen any negatives on her etsy or Facebook about the ink. You may be able to find them elsewhere if you can't get them through her

Deshae, thanks! Have you ordered your tree yet? Have you done any sort of test run with the inks to test for smudging, fading, etc?

I'm a scrapbooker, and I own memento inks, you can get them at Michaels and Hobby Lobby the only thing I am not fond of is they are pretty wet so smudges happen a lot they also tint the finger, even if washed right after...

I am doing the wedding tree thumbprint guestbook as well!! The ink that was suggested to me was versamark and you can get it at any craft store (Jo-Ann's for a fact). As for the tree, I actually downloaded one from the internet and had it printed out on a reg. piece of paper at Office Depot.. it ended up costing me about $2. I plan on putting it in a picture frame and after the wedding, hanging it up on my wall.. should only cost a little under $50 for the entire thing!!

Joanna, I bought watercolor paper which (if you've never seen it) is kind of like a cross between paper towel and card stock? It's very porous, so I'm hoping the ink will absorb right away. Do you have another suggestion besides Memento? We are planning on getting baby wipes (or something similar). Our wedding also isn't super formal, so hopefully nobody will be a big baby about finger staining. Smiley tongue

Wendy, I don't remember ever seeing that brand, but I'll keep an eye out for it the next time I'm at a craft store.

Sorry I don't have any suggestions for the ink but for wiping the ink off after.

Get some of that foam hand sanitizer. That way you won't have to worry about dipsosing the baby wipes, napkins or any other cloth like thing.

Abby, if you look on the front of the ink pad, they'll usually say if it's pigmented ink or dye ink. From what I've read, pigmented will wipe off your finger easier, but it'll also wipe off the page easier, too. For example, both of these ink pads are made by Color Box, but one is pigment and the other is dye.
