Inexpensive Bridal Dress in St. Louis MO

Madison, on August 19, 2013 at 11:08 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Hey guys! I'm trying to stay within my budget for my wedding dress. I went to David's Bridal in Sunset Hills, MO but they didn't have anything in my size. Any suggestions on a different place to shop that I can stay under $500?

Thanks! : )

I've browsed the vendor's but I wish they would say their price range. $, $$ or $$$ so I know if I should research deeper. I don't want to fall in love with a dress that's out of my budget so I've very particular on where I want to go and the dresses I want to try on.

Did you try David's Bridal online? The have a lot more sizes and styles that are "online" only. The provide all the measurements as well so you can accurately size the dress to your body.

But if you aren't picky about a new vs used dress, look at bridal consignment stores near your house. There was one in my small town and they had tons of dresses that weren't overly expensive and they had a huge range of sizes.

We looked at David's Bridal online but I don't want to buy a dress, receive it and it not look as nice on me as it did on the model. I'm a size 12 so the body shape is much different.

I'm a conservative size 12 so I completely understand your dilemma...

Just out of curiousity did you go to DB and they didn't have anything over a size 8 for you to try on?

That's what happened to me - I ended up trying the 8 on and loving the dress, ordering it in my size...

But I just did a quick google search and came back with this article...

    http://stlouis.cbslocal.com/top-lists/best-bridal-shops-in-st-louis/

The first shop keeps coming up - Clarice's - all the yelp reviews say "affordable"

Might be worth a call to see what they have and their price range...

Thank you so much! That is very helpful! They had some size 12 but nothing that I liked. Honestly, I just felt like the girl that helped wasn't listening to me or really paying attention to me at all. It was frustrating.

Maybe I'll try DB again and ask for a variety of sizes in the style that I like and then try finding it online. I just wanted to be 100% sure that I loved the dress and it fit me perfectly before I purchased anything....

My maid of honor just suggested Clarice's this morning! I will have to check them out now.

I had that problem w/ the first DB I went to - I ended up at one of their "collection stores" and mentioned my poor experience at the first one.

They said - go if possible during the week, early afternoon and specifically ask not to be triple booked with other brides. They usually can accomodate that during the week. Maybe that would help?

I also scouted DB online before and found the dresses I wanted to try on, gave them the list over the phone (but they have some way to do it on the website) and they had those dresses & similar ones already pulled for me. It was way less intimidating for me to go and know what I wanted versus being shown 900 dresses that weren't me.

Let me know how it goes! I am curious to see how it works out...

In Wood River Illinois is a shop called Memory Lane they have new and used I believe and onsite alterations you might try there. Only other advice I can give you is to avoid Frews Bridal in Alton Illinois, rude and very pricey! They think they are going to be the Kleinfeld's of the metro area and they dont know how to do it!

Some bridesmaids dresses can be ordered in ivory or white.

    Consignment shops are another possibility.

Check another DB if there's one in the area! I live in the Columbia, MO area, and wear a 14/16, and my store had TONS of options for me to try on. Basically, if they had it in a smaller size, they had it in a larger one too! Definitely keep looking! Also, check local bridal salons, and tell them you're interested in any sample sales they may have, and that your budget is $500. It could help you out a lot.

I had the same problem but found my perfect gown at laurees bridal and formal wear in DT Charles. Her dresses are still more but she gas an off the rack section where they have dresses that have been marked 50 percent of the original. I found it for around 500. Lots of stores do this but she was really friendly, helpful and really knowledgeable about finding the right gown on s budget. Hope this helps!! Make sure you leave a message to make an appointment she dies not answer the phone when she is with s customer.

Hey if you're familiar with Brentwood, but there's a small wedding shop behind target....and also a bridal shop directly across from the galleria.

Not sure if it is too late or not...but DB will order your dress in the size you need...and they will tell you what that is. Got mine off of their clearance rack...was not something I would have typically tried on...but so glad I did!

I will say this...DB has horrific customer service standards. It is like they know there is not many other budget bridal stores to go to. (I had to make a trip to STL to go there) Had horrendous experiences with my daughter as a bride, and myself...and my mother of the groom dress, too! (they did rectify the latter and gave me ANY dress I wanted, in exchange for their defective one I picked out...day before the wedding!)

The best advise I can provide to any bride is to find the dress you want, try it on and then go to EBAY!!!! TRUST ME! So many brides jump the gun, buy a dress and never get to wear it. So they sell it. I have found AMAZING deals on even DESIGNER dresses on ebay. ALL brand new and PERFECT! I purchased three for less than ONE dress would have cost me and none of them had a purchase price under $1500 - the most one cost me was $156.00 and that was WITH shipping. I highly recommend! Just get your size and your measurements and enjoy your savings!!

There is a newer bridal boutique on the hill in St Louis. Couture bridal and formal wear they have gorgeous dresses ranging from classic to trendy and are all under $1000. (seversl st the $500 mark) they Offered my bridal party and I champagne during our appointment and they only take one bridal appointment at a time so we had really great non-pressure attentive service.
