I'm paying for my wedding myself

For those of you that paid for your own wedding; how long did it take to save? How much did you end up spending total?

@JoRocka thanks for explaining it all to me. Like I said to you it just sounded rude to me because it gets used in a completely different and rude context up here. You'd probably laugh at half of the way we use certain words here.

I apparently live in the wrong place; there is no way in the world ever we could pay our bills and still save $500+ EACH a month. We've been saving where we can, we've decluttered the house some, gotten rid of some things we didn't need and have stopped going out. I don't remember the last time I ate out, *sigh* lol

We managed to find an extra $700 per month, and we used our bonuses and taxes. We have enough except for my wedding ring saved, and 3 months to go!

The real question is what we're we spending money on before?!?! $180 per month is the profit I make on my townhome that I have rented out since we bought a house in November.

My fiance and I are also paying for our own wedding. We were going to have a big wedding but when we were adding in everything, I just couldn't justify putting all that money for one party. We were engaged on 12.13.14 and we knew that we would have a long engagement because we needed to save. Our original date was May 19, 2017 but we decided to turn this thing around. Now, we're having an intimate ceremony and celebration with only 30 guests on December 23rd. Our wedding looks like it's coming to about $8,000 (venue is $500, flowers are $1500, photographer is $1800, private restaurant room dinner is $3000, invitations were $150) which is taking us a couple of months to pay.

We are taking about 20 months to save up and our budget will be about 14k. FH and I are saving up together, but I will be doing most of the saving.

I'm old - and have been fortunate to live WELL below my means for about 15 years. I have a "pay my bills and pay myself first philosophy" Emergency fund, then retirement. Whatever is left, I do what I want with it.

I decided a few years ago that I want to retire from corporate america ASAP. Put a plan in place w/ my financial planner that will allow me to do that in 4 years (YAY). I will no longer contribute to my retirement, but won't be able to withdraw for another 10 years. Will work on finding a gig that will pay for insurance/champagne $.

So our priorities are different - and drove our decision on budget. We budgeted $5K for the small family ceremony/reception for about 30. I think we will come in at closer to 4K. We also budgeted $5K for honeymoon. We have not been on a big trip for a few years to save for this. We have not set the budget for the bigger party for friends yet. I will probably but together 2-3 options for us and we will decide from there.

FH and I are trying to stay at 15k but right now we are closer to 17. Our venue and ceremony required deposits, but we might just pay off the estimated costs (both said that was completely fine) in full in advanced. If we're over we'll just get some money back that will go to our honeymoon and if we are under then chances are it'll just be the bar tab that we'll have to pay.

I am under contract at my current job until August of next year and I'm not too sure as to how long it will take me to find something new. The last thing I want is to be stressing out over last minute expenses, eating into wedding funds, etc.

I'm working 60 hours one week and 48 the next (not every paycheck) it gives us an extra 1,000 a check to put away. FH is working 60 hours a week also so we're able to save 1-2k from his checks. I'm hoping to keep it around 15k or less. We have 4 kids and 3 cats and trying to get a new car also, it's why we're working so much right now.

ETA: LMAO...I'm so tired I don't know why I mentioned our cats, except they are like our babies and want to eat, sleep, and snuggle.

We're using extra money and bonus money for ours. No saving ahead of time needed as we'll pay it off throughout this year and next. Expected to be about 35-40K for 90 people in New Orleans.

We figured we could save $100 each per week and multiplied that by how long our engagement was. It put us at around 15k so that's our budget.

My dress will be bought from separate account that I started 6 months prior to being engaged. Our honeymoon is funded through a separate savings account that FH has. So we probably will end up around 20k.

We are both so lucky to have great jobs (both of us are RNs). We didn't particularly save for the wedding, but simply had savings since we don't own houses or have kids. We have just been able to pay cash on the spot when we needed to! Thank the good lord above

I also auto deposit money out of my check each week into an account that I do not have a card for so I am not tempted to take it out. Been saving already before the engagement and the wedding is not till 2019.
