I'm paying for my wedding myself

For those of you that paid for your own wedding; how long did it take to save? How much did you end up spending total?

We didn't get married yet, but we have been putting $400 each away to pay for our wedding that we are also paying ourselves. Our wedding is going to be about 55,000 - 60,000 We live in NY everything is crazy expensive here!

ETA: we had 15 months to save and whatever other money we're short we are taking out of FH 401K he doesn't get a penalty!

Honestly. The only reason we can afford a wedding is because I was in a really bad car accident and the insurance company had to cut me a check.

Well that's partly true. I should say the reason we can afford a wedding right now. Before hand I was saving about 200 a month plus my tax returns each year. But then I got into the accident and had to pay for a lot before the insurance paid me back and my entire savings was emptied.

I had been saving up for it even before I met FH. And based on that and what he could afford we chose our budget. It took me about 3 years to save 20k

To be honest, I have been saving for my "wedding" for about 10 years, way before I met my husband!! Lol

We also agreed on budget and how much each of us would contribute before we were officially engaged.

We agreed on a budget and decided to have a two year engagement in order to save.

Forgot to add that the best way to grow the saving for me was auto deposit percentage of my paycheck straight to my saving account. I don't miss what I never got! Smiley smile

FH and I looked at our finances and the projected cost of the wedding we want. We took that number divided by 13 months and are saving that amount, plus a little extra just in case something unexpected comes up. We have given up eating out and are not planning any vacations. Our budget also includes a monthly night out to remind our selves why we're doing this in the first place.

ETA: Our budget is $10K in Omaha, NE. We're planning to keep whatever is left in savings after the wedding and continue to contribute to save for a house. Similar logic to O&L, we won't miss what we haven't seen.

I've been saving up for years, I find stuff on clearance. And love to craft my own things so I'd say I've spend about $150 total. Using my step moms dress. So I don't think the entire wedding will be but about $2k! If that...

I have been saving literally since I was a little girl. We are paying for our own wedding minus my dress ... our budget was 12 thousand but we are actually spending about 20 thousand for 80 people in Santa Barbara, Ca.

Getting married in April. Doing all decorations, arrangements, invitations, food, etc myself with my daughters help. Only spent about $2000. Bought things each pay check. And had the best time doing it.

I'm paying most the funds for our wedding alone while my fiancé is away at bootcamp and we're only spending a little over $3000..

We've saved our tax return money for the past few years. And then I'm just buying things here and there, little by little. Last month I bought my dress. This month I'll buy the invites. I'm hoping to stay around 15k total.

My FH and I are paying for our wedding ourselves...though it will mostly be my money, even though he makes about twice what I do. I'm just a better saver...like every cent that isn't spent on food, transportation or rent goes straight into the wedding savings account. He spends more on our mutual "things" (car insurance, eating out, etc.) so it about evens out.

We have a 16 month engagement (6 months left eeeeek!), and in 10 months we have saved roughly 18k.

We don't have a budget for the wedding necessarily, but we are hoping to be around $20k for 50-60 guests in the SF Bay Area.

We had savings and I've been putting away about $1,200 a month. Wedding is looking to be between $18k-20k in DC area. I've just done a lot of researching and comparing. Trying to get the most bang for my buck.
