I'm paying for my wedding myself

For those of you that paid for your own wedding; how long did it take to save? How much did you end up spending total?

You're right OP, how rude of us to tell someone that they are making a bad financial decision. It would be much nicer for everyone to simply say "great idea!" and let the girl go into debt over a party...

OP - Unfortunately all it takes is for one person to see that and go "hey that looks like a good idea", so we like to nip it in the bud. Also, giving an opposing argument with factual information isn't rude. Telling someone they look fat in their jeans is rude.

No I don't mean not to tell them not to do it but some of the comments weren't too nice and calling people salty while you are trying to give good advice about a 401k is kinda rude in my opinion. I'm all for opinions on how to pay for a wedding, right wrong whatever but no need to name call.

It sucks your thread got hijacked with idiotic financial advice, however, you can request people reply a certain way all you'd like but it's a public forum so we will also respond how we'd like.

@Mrs. Sasswood. Yeah it does suck, but I don't mind all the 401k information. I honestly never even thought people did that. However saying someone is getting salty isn't too nice. It's good to know that dipping into ur 401k is a bad idea not that I thought of it anyway.

@Mrs. Davis ????????I've never heard that one before. Whether it was you or not the conversation was getting heated anyway. After the first couple times if she didn't agree then I don't think she was ever going to no matter how bad the idea is.

Yeah kinda. I just didn't think it would spark a 401k argument.

OP- this is a public forum. you can't monitor/dictate how others view and respond to other posters. Said "poster" did seem a little salty with comment. Someone called her out on it and it ended.

It doesn't matter what kinda of conversation it sparks, the point is, you have no control over how people respond.

And if you think calling someone salty (and she was for sure salty) is rude then you need thicker skin.

Angelique, we are not here to be nice. We are not here to hold your hand and catch your tears when someone is mean to you- or someone else- so please stop.

We are not children. You are condescending.

I just think we can have a conversation without name calling rude. I don't find the information given a problem. I just don't see the need for that. If some one is being rude just tell them you think their being rude. Idk why we have to call names when we are all adults here. All I said was that I wanted to veer away from the argument because it got heated. Not avoid the whole 401k thing completely. I'm sorry if u misunderstood me. It just seemed silly to turn it into an argument.

Welcome to the Internet. Salty is not name calling. Bitch, moron, idiotic, dumbass, whorewaffle, etc equate to name calling.

    Get. Over. It.

Wait, weren't you the one who called us rude? Are you talking to yourself?

I wasn't the one being called salty @Mrs. Sasswood. I don't want anyone to catch tears. I just don't think it's necessary to call each other names when we are adults is all.
