I'm in hair and makeup trial hell...are you?

TSEE, on December 13, 2019 at 11:25 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 8

Is there a serious lack of professionalism going on out there, or am i just having a bad, unlucky experience? these trials are outrageously expensive, especially after you tip. I have had 4 makeup trials and 3 hair trials. i have taken select pictures with very specific styles and looks to all my appointments. i know what I love and I know what I hate and I have been very clear about it. two of the hair artists never actually finished the style I requested, they had somewhere to be after my trial and just told me I could come in for another trial. one just threw hair up in a bun because it was getting late (in her mind- I booked the time) and said it won't look like this for your wedding. So...what am I paying you for again? Yah, sure and I can book another trial and pay you full price again when you didn't finish the requested style the first time. That's not my fault. I should not have to pay for an incomplete trial. And, if I do, I should not have to pay for a follow up. and good luck getting an appointment for a follow up. Suddenly, no one has any time for you. The other artist did the things I told her I do not like and did not do the one thing I asked her to do, but I loved her work and really liked her and wanted a re-trial to see if I could see the style I was actually hoping for and clearly asking for and she has managed to completely ditch me saying she would call back in just a minute to try to book a trial this weekend then never heard from her again. My makeup artist put something on me that made me rash and peel and when I asked to get together to try to figure it out, she said her time was limited, but we sure can, if i drive to her (30 minutes, at least, each way) and pay for another trial. THANKS A BUNCH. I really liked you, but that is nonsense. my wedding is in two weeks. Is the money maker just doing trials and then screwing over your brides? Do these artists have any integrity? I hope my next one does. I've heard good things about her. I'm crossing my fingers. I can see why women turn into "bridezillas" because so many people are unreliable and unprofessional. This wedding planning process has been very disappointing and frustrating and terribly draining on the pocketbook. I just want to look pretty for this one day of my life, and so does every bride. I feel like it's all a game to them because it is so important to us they can get away with robbing us financially. Thanks for the vent.

The two ladies that are doing my hair and makeup thankfully my makeup and hair trial is free when I hired them for my wedding. I get my trial done I believe in May so I'm looking forward to it🤗
Have you checked out their work and reviews before going to them? I hope your next one goes better for you.

Yes, all were recommended by someone or another. Not brides, though. maybe that's the difference. It seems like that's how it should be. It's like an interview for a job, right? However, I could understand wanting to be paid for expertise, so that doesn't bother me. It's the lack of care to follow up though, especially once someone has pad and tipped well. I'm so glad you're having a great experience. that's awesome!! :-)

I’m so sorry you are having problems. I’m very very fortunate to have my hairstylist as a friend. I knew my trials were just rough drafts and the end result would be stunning. Which is extremely accurate. I should define rough draft here. She spent about 30 minutes doing 2 different hair styles. They were very similar to each other but she was able to create 2 different looks. She spent about an hr doing my bridal hair. As far as makeup i ended up just doing it myself. Well my sister in law loves doing makeup so she did mine. Do you have anyone close that likes doing makeup? The bestman’s wife was gonna be my back up with the makeup since she worked at a makeup counter. As far as your hair, have you considered your local hair stylist? I l am definitely assuming you go get your hair cut and not do it yourself. Props to you if you do cut your own hair.

I’m honestly so worried about this happening (I am really picky about what I want and don’t want for my makeup) so I’m investing in the products to just do my makeup myself. I’ve been buying products one at a time and practicing at home. I’m so worried about spending $100 on a makeup trial just to hate it.

In my city the good wedding HMUA book up about a year in advance.

When you researched these HMUA, did their websites/Instagram/etc show other women in the hair and makeup style you want? In my city soft pink and natural is the look 99% of the brides must want because it’s the majority of what MUA do. I spent a lot of time (months) searching for someone to do a different look.

I did research and looked at pictures.

I have great news. Went to someone amazing today who doesn't market and is totally referral based. 20 year veteran makeup artist. She is the deal and so professional l!!!! So excited. Still haven't found a stylist though :-(

Awesome!!! I’m a pinch, could you go to your usual hair salon to have your hair done? I know it’s not the ideal pampering we’ve come to expect on WW/Pinterest, but isn’t it the way it used to be done? 😊

I've only inquired at a couple salons so far but by me the trial is basically just a second appointment and you pay the same price for the trial hair and makeup as you do for your final hair and makeup (both are about $65-$85 each, each time). I think the only difference is that you provide more feedback and such during the trial with the idea of fixing it on your big day. What you are going through sounds horrible! I'm dreading the hair/makeup part of my wedding so much.
