So I got engaged in November and our wedding is in September. And although I’m excited, I was shocked when I realized that wedding planning and the idea of getting married isn’t 100% happy and sunshine and butterflies all of the time. Just because I’m engaged doesn’t mean I won’t get depressed. Or anxious. And it took me awhile to realize that. I felt extreme guilt when I wondered in the back of my mind “is this the right decision? Is this who I’m supposed to marry? Omg are you SURE you’re ready? You’re only 24” ya know. That evil voice in your head that just loves to sabotage beautiful moments in your life. I feel like I’m SO flawed and SO messed up in the head that I’m not happy all the time since I got engaged. I google “is it normal to be anxious about getting married?” countless times. Social media also puts so much pressure on brides and I have fallen victim to that. I was disappointed when I didn’t bawl my eyes out like they do on Say Yes to the Dress. “Is something wrong with me?? Should I be more excited than I am??” Those thoughts kept racing and racing. I can’t talk about this with my family, or they’ll think I don’t want to get married. I feel so alone sometimes. I ask my fiancé “aren’t you at least a little scared and intimidated?” And he says no. And that is exactly why I love him. Despite my anxiety and my constant overthinking, he loves me no matter what and he is excited to marry me. I’m not sure what I did to deserve him, but I am so so lucky.

So if you’re like me, and you feel guilty for not being 100% excited and over the moon and happy during your engagement, you’re not alone. And it should be okay to talk about.

    I totally feel ya! When I was engaged and wedding planning I didn’t always have butterflies of excitement. Because planning a wedding in itself is a logistical nightmare sometimes or it’s just like planning any other event, it takes a lot of work and CAN be stressful. But doesn’t mean you’re not happy to get to the end result of it all

    Hi Jenna,
    I think many of us brides to be have those feelings, all the planning seems to fall on our shoulders, why can't our FH help out more? For me, trying to decide on how I want my hair and makeup is so stressful! I tried on over 40 dresses before I found " the one " but I didn't burst into tears, were supposed to right?
    I wake up at night asking myself did I pick the right dress? Your so right Jenna, planning our weddings is so demanding and time consuming, we need to support one another and offer encouragement 💕🌹💒If you’re anxious, you’re not alone! 1

    That's what I love most about my fiance. I have struggled since I was 8 with depression. I have bad demons and they come out at the worst times. My fiance has been through it all with me, he talks me out of listening to my demons and I'm so grateful for it. I'm 25 and I have an 8 year old son from another relationship. But my fiance came into our lives when he was 2 and has been raising him as his own since. I know 25 is young but we have been through more than couples 5 years older than us. Getting married is just making it legal lol we've been "married" for a while now. When the demons come out make sure you talk to your fiance. Let him help you through the bad times, that's what a marriage it!! You'll be ok, you dont always have to be happy. Enjoy the moments you can and dont regret the moments you can't. In the end you'll love most of the wedding planning process, and youll wish some of it never happened 😂 good luck hun!

    You are definitely not alone. As long as we keep fighting for our happiness and as long as we don't let our thoughts consume us, we will make it through! Thank God for the wonderful men He has placed in our lives. Smiley heart

    When I get really anxious, it's not about whether I'm marrying the right person, I know it's about the process, but I just want it to be over. I hate so much "wedding" stuff, and I feel guilty about not being able to enjoy it when people want to give me things or make a fuss over me, and that's not how it should be. Thanks for making a space to talk about this.
