If you have back fat...

So this is a spin-off of another post because I've seen the topic here many, many times: back fat. So this is a spin-off of another post because I've seen the topic here many, many times: back fat.

Back fat isn't usually fat though, it's frequently migrated breast tissue from wearing an ill-fitting bra. Some 80% or more of women wear the wrong sized bra. I'll include a link in the first comment that goes into more detail, for ease of copy/pasting, but for me, it was literally life-changing!

Stores that measure incorrectly, like VS and JCPenney, all claimed I was a 40DDD. I dealt with quad boob for years thinking they were the bra people, they knew what they were talking about. Ha, no. When I measured by this blog's instructions, I was a US 36O/P! That's a HUGE difference, and I feel SO much better, no back pain, clothes fit better, etc.

So if you're trying to get rid of back fat, you might check out your bra and see if it might be the culprit, because you can't work migrated breast tissue off like you can fat.

Hopefully this helps others!!

Thank you! I have been dealing with this for years. Every place I go tells me I'm a different size. I'm going to try this!

I'd like to point out to unless your a dehydrated ibbf pro body builder or fitness model, you're going to have skin that gets mashed around on your back with a tight dress. Often times it's less back fat than you think and more skin. A corset dress laced up tight enough WILL give you skin wrinkles.

    So. Pick your poison. Lol

@FMH: That was my thought at first, but it was dead on!

@Jo: Very true, but if it's laced correctly (as in tight but not too tight) it shouldn't give the "fat rolls" look a lot of ladies worry about. Smiley smile

I had major back fat before I changed bras a year, year and a half ago. Now, not so much.

@mna, how long did it take for the back fat issue to get better after you switched bras?

SUCH a game-changer! Once I was properly measured I went down in band size but went from a C/D to a DD in cup size, and I'm soooo much more comfortable now.

As you can see, I'm not tiny, BUT I don't have the "back fat" rolls you see from the migrated tissue. This was laced a bit tighter than it needed to be, so there's a little bit of skin like @Jo mentioned.

@A&W: it really will depend on you. If you do the "scoop and swoop" method described in the link like I did, it only took a few months for it to return.

Okay, that's not bad at all. Your dress is gorgeous!

ETA: My problem is more with armpit fat, but I'm pretty sure it would work the same way.

So I just took my measurements and I got a 32FF (UK)/32H (European). I have been wearing a 36C/34D for years. Every time I get my measurements taken, that's what they say should fit. I guess I need to go shopping and try on some new bras and see the difference this makes.

@Beardtime: That doesn't sound too terribly far off, so I'll bet it will fit really well!

The band is what provides all the support to a bra, so it will definitely make quite a difference!!

Mrs Wino forced me to get molested by the titty fairy in downtown Ventura, CA when I visited so I now have a bra that fits perfectly. And higher expectations for bras I spend good money on!

Thank you so much @ MNA! I thought I was going crazy! I went to Dillard's to get a strapless bra for my dress and was mortified when they told me I was wearing the wrong bra size after being fitted awhile back and have several super comfy and flattering bras, just not a strapless one. The woman at Dillard's put me in one after remeasuring me as a 42 DDD that was ungodly uncomfortable and downright painful to wear. In no way was it flattering but I dealt with it thinking that surely this woman knew what she was talking about and maybe strapless bras are supposed to be that uncomfortable. Wrong. I will definitely try somewhere else!

Holy crap this was insightful! I just checked out my VS bra and the what's-it-called in the middle is an inch away from my body AND when I bent & scooped I was popping way out the top. So, my bra fits like shit. I'm excited to try a legit one!

While many women do wear ill fitting bra's that may cause bulges in other areas, I'm a little hesitant to agree with the "migrated breast tissue" term. There is actually no scientific proof that breast tissue can permanently migrate or grow in other areas of your body. Sure, a bra that fits will appear smoother, but if you have back fat, it won't go away simply because you put on different undergarments. The only way to get rid of fat (including back fat) is diet and exercise. Doing these things in conjunction will also help reduce the size of your breasts, as breast tissue is mostly comprised of fat. More info in the link below:

@Alyssa: I have a hard time believing that one article from a plastic surgeon, of all sources, is all that reliable. He has way too much of a bias to even be writing such an article.
