This is great! Thank you for sharing this. It's SOOO true. I know I've worn the wrong size for a long time, got fitted, changed sizes, only to learn that I was still wearing the wrong size because I was fitted at one of the stores you mentioned. It's awful.

I actually need to do this again. My weight has changed and no doubt my boob size with it. Good post! I'll be copying that link to look up later.

@Sara: I've heard that Nordstrom carries larger sizes if that's what you need, but it really depends on your size. I don't have a Nordstrom's so I just took advantage of Amazon's free returns for Prime members policy and ordered several to try.

@mna thanks! I do have a nordstrom near me. I am a VS 38DD or 36DDD but I am so fed up with the quality of their bras and shelling out $60 per bra. I have a 36DDD that gives me so much back fat but looks good from the front.

I am definitely trying this when I get home and then taking a trip to go try on bras

@Sara - any of the 'fancier' department stores should have a larger selection and higher-end brands. And if you're a smaller size, you've got a lot more options. Places like VS make perfectly good bras, they just don't have a wide range of sizes, so they try to tell everyone that she fits into something they sell.

@OG Alecia - you might also try different styles of bras. Depending on the shape of your particular breasts, certain 'cuts' of bras might work better than others.

@OGAlecia: I suspect you're going to find your band is much smaller (30-32 maybe? Possibly 28?) and the cup much bigger.

American stores and manufacturers came up with the measuring system they use in order to fit the widest number of women into their narrow size selection of bras. European manufacturers fit the bra to the woman, and therefore come in a much wider selection of sizes.

@Bookcase: Yes! I almost didn't get the bra I wear most often because there were a lot of complaints that it gave women "cone boobs," but for me it fit perfectly!

@OGAlicia: if you can't find a measuring tape, string and a yardstick can be used, too! (My cats always run off with my measuring tapes and hide them! :/ )

Thanks for sharing ! At one point I was wearing the wrong size until I went to Lane Bryant and got fitted . I now wear a 44G which is close to my original size 44DD I just need a bigger cup I guess. Every since I haven't had any issues with me popping out and side boobs. Also I been ordering bras from Adore Me and haven't had any real size issues. Now my other issue with bras are the support wire breaking and stabbing me the the damn heart.

My mind has been blown. This article might have me getting a new set of bras asap.

You are a lifesaver, I had no idea about this but I know that for the past few years my bras have been ill-fitting and I have noticed un-budgeable fat in my back area. It must be this!

I gave up trying to find better bras because every time they measured me it was just plain wrong.

I need to go get sized! I've always been sized by VS and now I'm worried about what I've been wearing. I don't have back fat but I still want to be wearing the correct bra. Not could lead to all kinds of problems you don't want :/

@mna - the only sensation I get is a super deep ache, my mind was blown when I discovered that other people actually feel things with them! Fun story (not really), one time I got an inch long splinter in one, and I didn't realize until I took off my bra for the night and it snagged on the splinter, there was quite a bit of blood.

If I'm able to breast feed they wont get reduced until after I have kids, otherwise its an ASAP situation in my book. My back and checkbook would appreciate smaller bras.

Yes! I am a huge supporter of bra resizing!

VS sized me at a 34D. I resized myself with help from ABraThatFits on Reddit and I am MUCH happier in a 32E.

I was loyal to Victoria secret. And by loyal I mean brain washed. I worked there for 5 years, and I genuinely think that I personally did a great job of helping customers. I'd never put a lady in the wrong size just to make a sale.

However, a few years later I had gained a lot of weight and went back in and asked for a fitting. The lady gave me a wardrobe session, told me I was a 38DDD and brought me the bras to try. Knowing how a bra should fit, I told her she was wrong (after trying a few on and mushrooming over the top) and she pretty much said she was trained to do it and knew my best size.

Nope.

I went to Soma and my bra wearing experience has been amazing since. I'm a 42H/44G... big difference from a 38DDD. The bras are expensive, and not overly pretty... but man, I won't go back to anything but them!
