If I have Jr. Bridesmaids, do I need Jr. Groomsmen too?

Danielle R., on February 25, 2010 at 6:04 PM Posted in Planning 1 14

Okay, I'm considering having my 2 cousins in my wedding as Jr. Bridesmaids. One is 16 and the other is 13 or 14. If I have Jr. Bridesmaids, do I need to have coordinating Jr. Groomsmen as well?

My wedding part is lopsided. I have my MOH, 2 BM and a Jr. FH only has his best man, unless his son decides he wants to walk down the aisle then we will have a Jr groomsman.

Nope, wedding parties don't need to be even, and in fact I have seen many wedding parties with jr bridesmaids but I have never seen a jr groomsmen in any of them.

Nope. I have a jr. bridesmaid (will be 10) and the groomsman that will be paired up with her is her uncle in law who will be 22.

Okay, so if I were to have 2 Jr. Bridesmaids, would they just walk out of the church together since they won't have an escort? And what would they wear? Would I just have them wear the same dresses as the bridesmaids? I got my bridesmaid dresses through Davids Bridal, but the dress that I have doesn't have a coordinating Jr. dress. Plus I really don't think that the older one would be able to fit in a Jr. Bridesmaid dress anyway. Would it be okay for her to wear the same dress? And what would I get them as a gift? Would I get them the same thing as my bridesmaids?

First of all, I don't consider a 16 year old to be a junior bridesmaid. But they don't have to be escoreted by anyone, they can walk out one at a time....alone. I think walking together would be weird. And they usually wear the same dress as everyone else. A 13 year old will more than likely be wearing a size 2 also, which isn't a junior size.

I had a 13 year old BM too, and since she has lil boobs growing in she couldn't fit the junior sizes where they is no room for a woman's chest.

Okay, so you presented an entirely new question for me. These two cousins are sisters. I wouldn't want to ask the 16 year old to be a bridesmaid, and ask the 13 year old to just be a Jr. Bridesmaid. I feel that it would insult the younger one. BUT... I already have 8 bridesmaids. The thought of making it "officially" 10 is kinda crazy. But 8 bridesmaids and 2 Jr. Bridesmaids doesn't sound too bad. Or do you think I should nix the whole Jr. Bridesmaid thing all-together? I guess I just wanted to ask my 2 cousins because they are my only female cousins and they were my flower girls at my first wedding 6 years ago. I sort of felt like I SHOULD incorporate them. Should I just accept that I can't have everyone and leave it as-is? Or ask them anyway? And the OTHER thing I'm realizing is that at my reception venue, the guy in charge said that it'll be a tight squeeze as it is to have a head table for 18 people. If I added 2 more, would it be rude to not have them sit with us?

In my opinion, Jr bridesmaids are the exact same thing as bridesmaids.....they are just younger. I think they wear the same dress and do all of the same things. My wedding parts ages were 24, 24, 13, and 10. But to me they were all equal.....except for MOH.

You could always give them titles outside of the wedding party like to be in charge of the guestbook....or some girls on here have 'ladies in waiting' where they are your helper for the day.

Hmmm... I sort of like the ladies in waiting idea. Although, wouldn't I still get them the same gift as the bridesmaids? I guess the thing is that my uncle has a TON of money, so asking him to pay for dresses & alterations is NO big deal. So I guess I just need to weigh the costs (if the gifts will be the same which equals the same extra cost). BUT if I had them as ladies in waiting, I wouldn't have to have them at the head table, they'd still have a special role, and they wouldn't have to walk out by themselves. Definitely something to think about.

It depends on what you're giving for gifts. My girls got jewlery they were to wear at the wedding....so they were all the same. You wouldn't want to give the 13 year old a flask with her name on it! lol

Lol - true. I was planning on getting my girls personalized tote bags, jewelry, and maybe flip flops to wear at the reception. Think I should do all that for them too?
