Ideas for filling table (have to use plasticware)

Kate, on January 6, 2023 at 11:13 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13

Unfortunately we have to use plastic plates and utensils from our caterer (this is already in contract; I'm not looking for any opinions on this). They will be in the buffet line.

Does anyone have examples of how they filled their tables if not having a place setting? I have table runners, flowers, table numbers, and candles for the center.

Should I put something in the spot that the plates would be?

Pictures appreciated!

You could use chargers (big decorative plates) if you want the tables to look filled. I don't think anyone will mind if you don't, though, especially because you'll have centerpieces.

I think your tables will be fine as is with what you have now. Guests won’t be paying an attention to how “filled” your table looks.

I’ve heard from many brides on this forum that they felt chargers were a big waste of money. I’d say put the money to other good uses.

I think it will look fine. Will fill up quickly with bags, phones, drinks, cocktail hour plates. Don't spend extra money you don't need to. No one will remember what the tables looked like.

I agree with others. What you have sounds like plenty! I am also having a buffet, so the plates will not be on the tables. You don't want to overfill the tables, as people will have to fit their plates, drinks, and small personal items (phones) as well. And it's no fun eating at a cluttery table. I think it'll look nice!

I would just put the silverware and glassware out. They're going to need it anyway, and it would be one less thing to carry back from the buffet station.

My tables were empty except for a floral centerpiece, candles and table number!

Should you decide against runners, you can place hanging napkins at each seat. Ideas for filling table (have to use plasticware) 1

Came here to suggest hanging napkins! They'll fill the space akin to a place setting.

Omg I have the same setup as OP (plastic required by venue for buffet reception), and y’all coming in with the hanging napkins are lifesavers! Those look gorgeous!

Thank you everyone! I do like the idea of doing hanging napkins and putting a little note/menu on each one. Plus they serve a purpose. But now I know that if I don't get around to it, it will still be ok without Smiley smile

Thank you for asking this question! I hadn't thought about this and we're in the same exact situation.
