I went to a wedding today AND....

Future.Mrs.Mak, on May 8, 2010 at 11:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

The decoration was horrible...the ceremony only had a few flowers and the arc in the middle seemed crooked, I felt bad! Other than that, The groom sang for his BRIDE!!! It was so cuuuuuuuuute. Everyone was crying, the wedding was sweet, but long! I couldn't help but to picture my wedding day! But really, the decoration was terrible, I couldn't help but to wonder why? why? why?

Nah, I've seen some beautiful weddings on a low budget, she obviously wasn't on WW or she would've gotten some great tips!

Oh that makes me sad because we're having VERY few decorations due to budget. I hope people don't feel this way about my wedding!

I find my self taking mental notes when ever we go to weddings now days... and i tend to find a lot of "dont do's", which makes me feel bad too. but i am learing from others, and just becasue i wasnt that found of something doesnt mean it wasnt their perfect ideas (thats what i tell myself). i do ask "why" all the time too... but i just keep to myself (or vent to the FH) and leave it at that... im positive it has happened to us all... it does make me wonder what will be said about mine...

I posted this as a comment on my own thread, but it applies here more:

"I just wanna say something right quick. FH and I have been talking about this the entire way home from his cousin's wedding.

The wedding we went to yesterday was EASILY a 30K wedding. Their venue alone was $15,000.

The wedding I went to today was...maybe a $5,000 wedding tops.

Guess at which one we had more fun. By leaps and bounds, the budget wedding was better all around. The venue, the decor, everything. The bride and groom looked spectacular, and we've come to notice that the less a wedding costs, the happier the couple seems to be.

So never fear, budget brides...most people aren't comfortable with all the pomp and circumstance anyway. =0)"

    (But um...that doesn't mean don't try. lol.)

Natasha, remember there's a big difference between very few, but lovely decorations and very few, baaaaaaad decorations! I'm sure it'll be lovely at your own wedding.

I think, similar to what Carmen said.. i mean just because us budget brides DIY stuff or take shortcuts on things doesn't mean we aren't putting all of our effort, blood, sweat, tears and glue guns into our decor! I mean if nothing else, I know that *I* am so proud of myself for working to keep within budget, DIYing gifts, flowers, and whatever else, esp. cuz come sept. i will have had 2 weddings in 6 months! lol i think budget brides may even take extra pride in their big day because they did a lot of stuff by hand!

@hartshead u right because I am on a budget myself, so I'm learning from this! lol. Well I don;t think they tried that much..because trust me...it was that bad. Maybe the reception was better, I didn't go, I had to come back home. I'll ask my mom tomorrow if the reception was decorated a little better, @ just for love, I take notes as well, to see what I can learn or not to.

I'm a low budget bride... so I'm hoping that nobody took my tired one-worded question to imply that a small budget equals bad decor. I was going a bit cross eyed when I posted...

My thinking was that maybe it was a combo of a small budget and DIY that didn't quite make the grade. We all do the best we can with the resources we have available. I can see a scenario in which a DIY bride with limited funds and creative resources made an effort.

Ack... my eyes are crossing again... its time for me to head to bed... I completely lost where I was going with that... so I hope it makes sense.

And I love Carmen's post. That says a lot of what I might be trying to say.

I agree, just because it's low budget doesn't mean you can't have a cohesive design going on throughout, or at least one that doesn't clash. I'm not into the whole "matchy matchy" thing myself, so I'm sure someone will comment that all of my greens aren't the same or some nonsense like that.

Oh my. I'm not having any flowers in my ceremony because of cost. It will be outdoors though so I'm hoping the greenery will help..I am using a lot of drapery though so I hope it won't look tacky.

I went to a very budget wedding (and I hope I don't offend anyone by saying this) but, when you walk in, instead of a normal poster sized engagement photo, the couple had those frames you get at Target that are woodedn and say "best friends", "Family" etc on them with their picture that was not a professional photo but something taken at home and it was a 5 by 7. And all the flowers were fake, but not silk. And they had paper ware..paper plates, plastic forks, plastic cups. I felt bad. Smiley sad BUT....they looked like they were having the time of their life and the bride was glowing so, eventhough it's not what I envision for my own wedding...I was happy to see that it didn't bother the couple one bit.

IDK what the final cost of our wedding will be (mommy & daddy luckily) but we're getting our flowers in bulk from Costco & then my Aunt who is a gardener is doing all the centerpieces, bouquets, etc. Hopefully this is saving $.

@mariel- A friend of mine used Costco flowers for her wedding and they were GORGEOUS... I would totally go through Costco for my flowers, but FH's parents are florists. Sweet!

About a year ago I went to a wedding where there were almost zero decorations except really, really plastic-y flowers stuck into plastic bud vases, which was sad because the venue, food and scenery [outside] was wonderful! Even the bride's bouquet were emerald green roses which were a little odd. I am using fake flowers, so it wasn't that they were not real, it was sad that they looked more artificial than my Dollar Store ones. The food was dang good though, so I still ended up enjoying myself Smiley laugh

Mrs Turner - in gardening, using whatever is beautiful that is outside the area that you control is called "borrowed scenery". I'm using that myself. The venue we are using is surrounded by the grounds of a beautiful old house and tons of flowers. I had thought about going with another venue that came already decorated on the inside, but it has a car wash about ten feet away right beside it. I just can't see my guests driving up past the car wash, it definitely doesn't do it in the borrowed scenery department!

My wedding won't have many decorations...just candles (the venue provides) on the table and some flower pedals that fall off of the bouquets when being put together. To be completely honest, every wedding I have gone too I don't remember what it looked like, I just remembered how much fun I had. Unless you have a lot of "bride to be's" at your wedding criticizing everything, no one will notice if there aren't enough flowers on the tables or the cake doesn't stand out. Yes I would notice if stuff is crooked, but thats just the way I am...Smiley smile So if you are on a budget, don't stress about it. Just know that at the end of the night you will be spending the rest of your life with the one you love the most, and you tried your best for your guests to have a good time.
