I HATE the tapping on the glasses!!!

Lindsay , on May 24, 2011 at 4:20 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 36

I cant stand the sound of tapping on the glass to watch the bride and groom mack it. I have decided to place a peice of chewing gum on each plate and ave the DJ explain that if you really want to see us kiss you need to show me an impressive bubble!! I've heard of couples making people hulo hoop and sing a song. Does anyone have any other ideas for something else to do?!?!

No ideas here, other than FH said NO FRICKIN' WAY!!!!! I was thinking of getting ONE gold Hershey Kiss and the person who finds it in their favor box gets to get us to have ONE kiss!

I thought exactly the same thing, glass tapping = very tacky. I found place card holders with bells as the base so people can just ring the bells instead.

    I have no ideas.

The DJ told everyone to tap on the glasses, or yell "ring a ding ding" but after his demonstration, no one did it until there were speeches going on. We were very relieved! We love kissing each other, but the glasses irritate me! haha. Also, Hubby didn't even hear them half the time...

At one wedding I went to the groom was in med school, and in order to get them to kiss you had to play Operation (which was set up near the dj). If you successfully removed a piece they kissed. It was pretty cute. Smiley smile

My dj suggested designating couples at various tables who would have to kiss when the glasses were clinked. The first couple times FH and I would kiss, but from there on out the dj would call on a couple from our guest list to smooch (I would give him the names ahead of time.) This could go 1 of 2 ways - they were embarassed and fearful of having the spotlight on them, so they'd stop. Or everyone would enjoy it so much they would continue and the attention would be off of us so we could eat our dinner in peace.

I didn't opt for it because the annoying clinking would still be happening. But maybe I'll change my mind before then!

We are having a money jar out and for every $1 dollar we will kiss for 1 second. We won't be keeping the money we will be donating it to the stollery childrens hospital.

I can't take the clinking of the glasses or the bells.

In my family and FHs (So probably this whole area), if guests are given plastic utensils/glasses (no clinking) and no bells, they pound on the table with their fists... there just is NO avoiding it, I've been told. Definitely the thing I'm looking forward to the least.

We are going to have a bell or something like a bell hanging, and a nerf gun or a ball and people have to hit the bell to make us kiss. I hate the clinking glasses, and I think bells would be just as annoying

One idea I had was that the person had to share a memory of us. My FH is a little worried about what I will find out that day.

I like the idea of us getting to make another couple kiss. Maybe after we kiss we get to tell another couple to kiss.

We are doing the Hershey Kiss game. We have a small container filled with silver and a few gold kisses. The guests will have to pull out a kiss, if it's gold then we kiss if it's silver then they have to kiss someone at their table.

We're doing a game where couple's names are all placed in a bowl. throughout the program, we pick a name and they get to demonstrate the kind of kiss they want us to do. Smiley smile

I won't have any mention of "if you want the bride and groom to kiss, you have to...". I have found at weddings that if you don't call attention to it, people are pretty relaxed about the glass tapping...as in they don't do it much. It's our wedding, but do people really need to see us kiss every 5 minutes? lol

I'm SO glad you ladies brought this up! I've ALWAYS hated seeing/hearing glasses being clinked repeatedly until the bride and groom (who are usually just trying to get thrugh their main course at dinner) give each other a smooch. I didn't even THINK about other options and am loving what you've all come up with!

I have a feeling that my non-traditional ways are gonna ruffle feathers once the reception gets underway, so how do you guys stop people who are hardcore "traditional" from clinking anyway? Just have the DJ make an announcement like "in lieu of using your glasses, if you want to see them kiss, you have to do ____".???

Yes, the DJ can announce it. I am considering reception "programs" that have this on it as well as a loose schedule and other useful info.

Totally doesnt bother me..you only have this special day once ( hopefully) and if it makes my guests happy then I'll smooch my Hubbs til the cows come home..

i do like the idea of giving money to charity for it though...

One of my co workers recently got married, I liked the way they did it.. anytime someone rang the bell.. the groom would pull a name of a couple (done prior to the wedding) from a bowl and that couple had to get up and give their best honeymoon kiss... the bride and groom had to copy ... kinda hard to explain...here is a pic of one of the kisses maybe it will help...

Ugh me too ... I think I'm going to put a request in for the dj to say if you tap your glass to get the bride and groom to kiss they will NOT do it ... maybe a bell but it can only be rung once every hour ... Smiley smile
