I fell in love with a dress... BUT no one likes it

Although I pictured myself in a huge ballgown I fell in love with this fitted mermaid style dress. My mom loved the dress but she is pretty much the only one who liked it. FMIL wants me to keep looking and my bridal party has seen the dress just in photos and wants me to keep looking. Has any other bride came across this predicament? What were your experiences if you had?

I've attached a photo of me with the dress as well as the model wearing the dress so you could see a better view of the train.

I think everyone else has already said it best. It's what you want the most and you can't please everyone. And honestly - your mom loves it and to me that is the only opinion that really matters. Smiley smile

My MIL really wanted me to get a different dress and I am so glad I got what I wanted. I felt beautiful, comfortable and confident in my dress. If that is how you feel in yours, by all means, tell everyone else to shut up and wear the dress!

I love it, I think it's stunning. I say wear it and who cares what anyone else thinks? There are a few people who have said negative things about my dress so I just stopped showing it because I won't let them change my mind.

I think it looks great on you. If you love it, screw them....they are not wearing it.

Tania thank you! I initially wanted to hide my hips with a ballgown dress but this silhouette made me feel gorgeous.

Swolemates that's what my MOH noticed, that it might be a little too much. I think my FH would like it, he reassures me that he'd think I would look good in whatever I end up deciding on.

I think it's bold and fun, but it's not so far outside the box that I would consider it over the top. I mean, it's definitely not traditional but I say if you feel good in it then you should go for it.

WWCristina you're absolutely right! This has been the only dress that I actually started dancing in inside the fitting room hahah.

Glamorous I'm very close with my mother and if she hadn't like it I probably wouldn't have fallen in love with it like I did!

Kassy so true this dress made me feel not only comfortable and confident but like a BRIDE!

Awww thanks Bethie that's a good idea! I should stop showing pictures of it to others.

Celia seriously you ladies have all convinced me to screw the rest it's MY dress Smiley smile

Maybe the camera didn't capture your expression very well, but you don't look like you love the dress. You look like you like it, but your expression doesn't say "OMG, THIS IS MY WEDDING DRESS!!!!!"

It's a very unique and memorable dress. It fits you well and shows of your tiny waist. If you absolutely love the dress, then go for it!

I think you should go for what makes you feel gorgeous and like a bride. I originally wanted a ball gown and no lace. Guess what my dress is? A lace fit and flare! You are rocking this dress and I think you look stunning.

Wear what you want to wear, it's your day!

Personally that dress isn't to my taste, but that's because I don't have bod like some people *wink**wink* to make that silhouette work; honestly that dress does look gorgeous on you.

Kelly I think my face was expressing FMIL concerns.. :/

JSmith so funny how that happens, you go in thinking you know exactly what you want and lo and behold you end up with something that you never thought would work.

Lauren17 thank you! I really did feel like a bride in this dress.

Sue! HEY almost date twin Smiley smile haha thank you! I really do love how the silhouette looks and it's totally different than a traditional dress.

You're the one who is going to wear the dress, not them. If you feel this is the dress (which looks great on you btw), then get it.

Oh girl you wear that thang. Smiley smile Also, not to be creepy but you have a figure to die for, and this gown showcases it beautifully. It's a statement of a dress, which will be fabulous if you are comfortable and confident in it.

To put it nicely, that dress isn't my style. But it's not my wedding day. It's yours! Wear what makes you feel like a bride.

    You're rocking it!

When it comes to a wedding dress, the only person whose opinion matters is your own, barring any religious ceremony rules about modesty. Now, I also agree that the fiance's taste should come into play a little bit, but I think we automatically consider that somewhat when we pick our dresses anyway. Like, if OP's fiance loves her in body-hugging clothes, he's gonna love that dress.

I second-guessed my choice at one point. I showed my fiance a picture of a newer, trendier dress that I was considering going to try on, and he said, "Eh... looks like lingerie." Thank goodness I asked him.

You look awesome and I love that dress! My mother and FMIL didn't like my dress, either. I told them I appreciated their opinions, but I loved it and I bought it right then. When you know, you know. Do what makes you happy, hon!
