I fell in love with a dress... BUT no one likes it

Nicolita, on December 14, 2015 at 12:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 74

Although I pictured myself in a huge ballgown I fell in love with this fitted mermaid style dress. My mom loved the dress but she is pretty much the only one who liked it. FMIL wants me to keep looking and my bridal party has seen the dress just in photos and wants me to keep looking. Has any other bride came across this predicament? What were your experiences if you had?

I've attached a photo of me with the dress as well as the model wearing the dress so you could see a better view of the train.

The bottom is well, Loud. But its your dress and if it fits your personality. GO FOR IT... Its not their wedding day. This is something you should choose. They don't have to wear it.

It's dramatic. Go with what feels best.

Who cares what anyone else says. You're the one who has to wear it. If you love it then you should get it!

If it's what you love and you feel beautiful, then get it.

I agree with the above. If you love it, feel like a bride and think your FH will like it then go with it. If not then keep looking. You look gorgeous in that dress though.

Personally I can't figure out if I love it or think its just ok. I love the top, mermaid style and the poof. But for me the poof would be too much. Have you tried on dresses similar but not as poofy at the bottom? If you want to, you should and either way it will make you say "No I like the other dress better or I actually like this better". But its not a must. The dress is the one thing I usually say who cares about anyone else.

It comes down to what you like and at the end of the day most people will think you look beautiful and that is mostly because you will feel beautiful and that will shine through. Choose the dress that you like the best.

Think about your own personality and the style of your wedding. Will it fit with the décor and overall formality? Your dress is almost like a piece of décor for your wedding. People will be looking at your dress more than a lot of the decorations. That dress is very unique and very bold, and could make an awesome statement at your wedding depending on your style.

At the end of the day, this is your ONE wedding dress and no one gets to tell you to "keep looking." The fact that your mom loves it says a lot, since she's likely to know your personality more than anyone else. Also, you have a great figure so you could totally pull it off. I think that dress is unique and very bold.

You look awesome in it. I couldn't pull it off but you have to wear what makes you comfortable.

You look amazing in the dress and it is gorgeous!

From experience....wear what YOU want to wear. This is YOUR day. I made the mistake of getting a dress that my mother liked and I didn't particularly care for over a dress that I absolutely loved. Had a bad case of buyer's remorse, returned the dress before it shipped and got the one that I wanted! #sorrynotsorry. Mom doesn't even know that I changed my dress. She will find out on my wedding day. Smiley smile

If you love it and you feel great in it then goes with it. They make dresses in all shapes, sizes, and colors cuz everyone is different.

What matters most is that you feel beautiful. (You are beautiful to me) If this dress brings out your inner beauty queen then that's what's special. You wear the dress, the dress doesn't wear you. Trust me your FH will see the smile on your face and think "Wow, that's my hot wife!!"

You could wear "the world's prettiest dress" and if you aren't happy it'll show.

This is one of those situations where "it's your wedding, you do you, girl!" is appropriate advice. You look stunning and if that's the dress that makes you feel great, that's all that matters! Go with your gut!

It's loud and crazy and I love it.

Like everyone else said, if you like it then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Not many people in my life liked my dress either.

It's not traditional, but I think it's gorgeous. If this is what you want and you are happy in it, go for it!

This makes me feel so much better! Thank you ladies Smiley smile I am a little crazy so the dress pretty much fits my personality, I think that's why my mom also really loved it. It's a totally different dress than most but Nicole you're right I never thought that the dress is actually a big part of the decor and theme of the day.

Novemberbride: I voiced my concern with FH and I love that he told me it's your dress not theirs.

I'm going to go against the grain, just a little bit! I think that yes it is your wedding and your dress and you loving it is THE most important thing. But I would also take in to consideration what you think your fiance will like. Yes he will think you're beautiful in whatever you have on but he may be taken aback by how much is going on. Obviously I don't know your fiance, maybe he'd love that sorta thing, but I think it's important to have some sort of idea of what he pictures you in.

It's a pretty dress but I think that it takes away from you. You are beautiful and so is your figure, I think the dress is so showy that people may look at the dress more then your face.

Think on it for a few days, and if a week later you still love it, it's the one! I think you look great!

@Nicolita ~ This is one of the items in a wedding that I truly believe is completely up to you Smiley smile. YOU will be wearing it (and the only one wearing it!), so if YOU feel beautiful and comfortable and all that jazz, I say go for it! Smiley smile
