SuchaDiva, on March 10, 2010 at 10:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

I know my wedding is over a year away. But I do not like cake at all. Not even cupcakes or brownies. The only "cake" I will. eat is cheesecake. And I can barely eat that. My issue is that I don't know if I should have cake. I know that everyone else will eat it, ecept me. So what are some ideas? please help

Everyone will eat the cake, and you can have a special desert made for you and FH. But if you don't like that, hmmm...

Canolis? baklava? parfaits? whipped cream and strawberries? cobbler? a chocolate fountain with fruit, graham crackers, marshmallows, etc?

I am doing a wedding cheesecake. Its a 3 tier diy strawberry cheesecake. I think since its the only cake you will eat you should look into one of them.

What about something that's shaped like a cupcake? You could make banana bread, blueberry muffins or chocolate chip muffins and pile them high in this super cute muffin decor stand.

The reception is sort of a thank you for your guests for attending the wedding, so even if you don't like cake, I think it would be nice to have it for them and like Jessie said, a different dessert for you and FH.

I don't like cake either and it's my wedding so I think I should be happy with all the food, that includes the dessert and you should too. My Fh and I are having a single cheesecake for us since thats what we enjoy and we have platters of pastries on all the tables for the guests. I've been to plenty of weddings where the guests don't even eat the cake anyway, especially if you have mini pastries and cookies on the table. It's your wedding so do what you want, no one says you have to have a cake cutting ceremony, it's about you and your Fh.

What dessert/treats do you and rouy fh like? You can have a "Dessert table" and then take what ever you and your FH's favorite treat is and make a tower out of it.. say you like rice krispie treats, take a 3 or more tiered tower, place all the rice krispie treats all over and that could be the "center attention of desserts make shift 'cake'" this works with donuts, squares, cookies, pretty much anything you can eat with fingers, my one firend had a cookie tower and a dessert table, the cookie tower was their 'cake' and they had rice krispie treats and a chocolate fountain, krispie treats chocolate fountain = DELICIOUS COMBO!

I would say to get something you will enjoy for you and your husband and if you think everyone else will enjoy the cake, get the cake for them. The ceremony is all about you, the party though, as Sharon said, is a Thank You for the guests who came to share your union so make sure you keep in mind things that they would enjoy. I know we always say things like "it's your day, do what you want" but in the end, if you are having a reception, that party is for your guests as well as you.

I'm with you - I hate cake. And I'm not a fan of cupcakes, either. Cheesecake is okay, but...eh. What I really love is pie. Or fruit tarts. Future hubby loves cake (and ice cream and pie and brownies and, well you get the idea...), so I'm not sure if he would be willing to forego a cake for something else or not. But I think a selection of pies beautifully presented in layers like a cake, could make a nice alternative!

Pick what you like and go with it! Or have a small cake and something else. Believe me, as a guest, I would love an alternative to cake!! (Especially if it's pie! Smiley smile)

@ Amber well said. Although it's "my" wedding, I'm not just having food I love (my guests would hate blood pudding! lol). Although it's your wedding, the reception is a thank you for them traveling/buying gifts/new outfits and taking time out of their lives to witness the union of yours. You and your FI are the hosts of the reception and a good host always thinks of their guests first Smiley smile

I know that it is your wedding, but your guest came to witness you and your FH get married. So I feel that you should have somethings there that they would like also and I think that would be the cake. I think you should get something that you would like and have a cake for your guest.

I know the cake is most people favorite part of the wedding, people go to weddings for wedding cake, well besides the obvious reasons. They say after the dress people want to see the cake. Just a thought. Smiley smile

We are doing Pies & Parfaits. It's not that we don't like cake...but 1- we wanted to do something different and 2- FMIL is going to show me a family recipe one which will be one we will "cut" per say. The rest will be apple, blueberry and chocolate cream. Yummy !!!
