I do, on a Tuesday

Becca, on July 26, 2016 at 4:08 PM

My fiancé and I are planning to have our wedding on a Tuesday, but everyone thinks we're crazy and no one wants to go. The date is very important to us and we are already having battles a year out! Need advice on what we should do!

Since most of my weddings are destination and the guests are here for a week, a lot of the weddings fall on a week day.

As far as putting your preferred date on the marriage license, you'd have to legally get married on that date. So, you may be paying your officiant twice.

I'm getting married on a Monday. Do what you want, it's your wedding day. If people love you and want to be apart of your special day, they will find a way to come. Trust me.

If you want to have your wedding on a Tuesday go to the JP and you can have your special day and then you can always have a reception later if you want too.

@Massy: everyone also does not work a Monday through Friday job either. But people never consider that when they decide to have a Saturday wedding. This can be looked at from many different perspectives. I don't understand the whole concept of not taking off for a loved one.

If dates really matter to you, your wedding date will matter to you later on. Don't do it on Tuesday as this is being inconsiderate of others. Set up a new date and that date will be more meaningful.

If the date is important for you then go for it! But don't be upset if people can not come. As far as people saying "is the date more important than family and friends" - a lot of people get married in small ceremonies or in the court house with VERY few people. It is your day and it is for you and your FH! Do what makes you happy!

I probably would change the date.

I don't know why people are assuming that everyone gets PTO. I'm a contractor, so I don't. I know a lot of other people who don't. So taking off time is a big deal to me because I lose money. I'll do it for someone really close to me even though it's a hassle. If it's a local wedding, then I wouldn't have to take time off and it would be fine. But if I have to travel to a wedding in the middle of the week, it's going to be a huge financial burden for me because I'll have a smaller paycheck on top of the travel costs. If you're okay with people declining for reasons like that, then go for it. As long as you manage your expectations, it's fine.

My wedding is on a Monday and everyone that I've invited is coming. If they love you, they'll be there.

Tuesday is an awkward date for a wedding. Tbh, it's awkward even with a DW, which you can usually get away with midweek weddings more easily.

DF and I will likely to a Thursday wedding, BUT it's a DW, we have a tiny guest list, and our VIPs (who are the majority of our tiny guest list) frequently vacation where we're having it anyway (Disney World). That said, we end up with it not really being an issue for us, since our guests will likely just roll it all into their vacation anyway.

If you have so many guests saying they won't attend, then you have to decide what's more important to you: having them present, or marrying on a specific date.

We have done many Monday weddings for chefs, DJ's, other wedding pros and actors. It's so true; not everyone works M-F......9-5.....
