I can't do heels, what are other options?

Impending Mrs. Davis, on January 15, 2014 at 7:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 48

Hi all!

I'm thinking about my wedding shoes and I really don't know what to do. I am not very comfortable with the idea of being in heels all day. I rarely wear them and when I do, my feet hurt after five deep breaths and 10 steps.

It also doesn't help that I have very weak, "sprainable" ankles and I'm generally very clumsy. I'm really hoping that my wedding day will me the one day that God blesses me with a semblance of balance.

Basically my question is, what are other shoe options I can wear??

A little more info: I'm getting married outdoors on a covered veranda and then having a traditional indoor reception. So I don't really want to go barefoot or anything.

Also, my fiancé is 6'4" and I am 5'7" (on a good day) so do you think heels will be extremely necessary for us? Thank you for all your help and pushing through this rambling post!!!

I'm in a similar situation...bad ankles (even with a plate & 5 screws in one of them!), outdoor wedding, and I'm 5'4" and FH is 6'2"...I am either going to do a low heel or wedge or maybe even flats. I would rather be comfortable! I don't quite want to wear flats since I think I just stand better/look thinner if I have a little bit of a heel.

I don't have my dress yet but have a navy gown for an event 7 months before the wedding...hoping I can find one pair of shoes that will work for both things!

You don't have to purchase 4" heels. Mine are only 2.5" or you could wear blinged out flats. Another option are wedges. Some people are wearing TOM's wedding shoes - lots of options, its really up to you.

FH is 5'8" and I'm 5'5" and still wearing heels!

I really love wedding sandals. I bet you can find some awesome ones on Etsy. I don't think heels are necessary. I am wearing wedges for a little more comfort and stability.

I will wear heels for the ceremony and half the pictures (the other half I'll be barefoot because we'll be on a beach). I plan on changing into pretty flats before going into the reception.

I have a very weak left ankle - I damaged it too many times from running, etc. that I have like 10% cartilage left. And then the arch on my right foot has fallen, making standing up for a period of time painful (but since I have flattish feet the doc said there's nothing to do unless the pain gets worse and moves).

    Questions to consider...

    1) Will anyone see your shoes under your dress? My dress is cocktail length, so my shoes will be 100% visible at all times!

    2) Are you hemming your shoes for flats?

There are plenty of pretty flats in the world! Even evening flats!

I can't wear heels either. I'm wearing Toms. Probably the ones pictured below.

They're super comfy and they're cute.

I never wear heels, so I'm going to get a super expensive pair of ballet flats. I'm 5'3 and FH is 6'1, but I don't care. We are the same height all the time and I don't think it looks bad in photos..

Tom's make my feet sweat Smiley sad

I wear heels & I love them, but wearing them allllllll day can be tiring! I don't want to spend the first day after our wedding with sore toes! Plus, my groom is only 2 inches taller than me! So, I'm opting for Bridal Slippers for the reception. They're satin & come in ivory or white, with a small beaded applique. I don't like the look of flip flops (especially with a gown!) for weddings, so simple slippers are the way I'm going! Only $25!

I'm wearing booties with maybe a 2 inch heel. I hate heels but find that I'm much more comfortable in a low heeled boot.

I wore bridal slippers with beading on the front. I think you should make comfort your top priority, well over any height disparity. I know someone posted not long ago that she was going to wear hightops, which I thought was fantastic. I'd wear something 'fancy' for the pictures then whatever will let you dance the night away with the most comfort for the rest of the reception.

Wear wedges, they give you the lift but offer more support so they are much easier to walk in and your feet wont get as tired. The heel part of the wedges is softer (especially cork) and they are super comfortable.

There's lots of super cute flats out there, I'm going with flats even though I could handle heels, but I am having a Catholic ceremony so there's lots of up-down-up-downs. Plus I'm 5'10" and FH is 5'11"/6'0" and I don't want to be taller than him Smiley tongue

I'm 5'2", husband is 6'. I wore flats because seriously, screw heels. Be comfortable. Your feet will thank you.

I am wearing cowboy boots...having a rustic wedding, and it is a perfect alternative to heels, which pains me that I can no longer wear them! (Undiagnosed foot problems, which = selling 100's of beautiful heels!) I think it is an awesome photo op, as well...and will take flip flops and/or ballerina slippers along for the reception, too.

Your height should not be a problem. My dad was 6'4" and my mom is 5'7". I am wearing sandals for my outside wedding. I don't think it will be a problem. There are a lot of pretty flats or sandals.

If you're worried about height difference, definitely do a wedge over a heel. Much easier to walk in and better if you have weak ankles! But there are so many nice flats out there!

I am not getting what the height difference makes? I mean, you are what heights you are, at all times, right? Smiley winking

Toms look like old lady shoes to me! LOL KTV...where are the sandals you posted, from? Beautiful!
