"I better be invited"

Macey, on August 17, 2017 at 10:24 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 92

Ever since we got engaged, I can't believe the amount of people who have said to me "I better be invited!" Like even people that I never really talk to that would have no reason to be invited. I can't believe people don't realize how rude this is. Anyone else having this happen to them??? Lol

YES!!!!! But then one person that said this to me isn't even coming after I invited them. Which is also super annoying.

I have had a lot of people say this to me. I just tell them politely that we are having a small wedding and that we would love to invite everyone but we just can't.

I've had a few people say things like this to me. It's always people who are not invited too. I just tell them that our families are huge and our venue is not, so we can't invite a lot of friends. It's true, but also convenient.

My FMIL invited some of her best friends, whom I've never met, after a case of "I better be invited" while they were speaking to FH.

I haaaate that. I also had someone at the gym say it to me...like okay...

Oh yeah.....we have had people do this. We've also had some guests invite others and say "I hope that's ok". No, no it's not but what are we supposed to say now? Then we have had others tell us they can't make it to the wedding but were never invited in the first place......

Yup, and those people were not at my wedding. It usually does come from people you aren't close with. Just ignore them and only invite those you can't imagine the day without!

This is my life and I can't stand it. My rule is if I haven't talked to you in the last 6 months to a year. You're not invited

I've had a few people say this to me. My FH had his boss come up to him and say if he's not invited he will not give him the time off for the wedding and honeymoon...uh it doesn't work like that.

I've also had a few people I knew in high school reach out and say they "DJ or do Photography on the side and they will give me a good price" yeah no sorry.

Yes. It was... Weird. I like her and all, but I don't know her very well and can't believe she would expect an Invite let alone tell me she's expecting one! I didn't invite her. I hope she's not offended.

Also awkward. I invited a few people from my old job (left a few months ago) and one of them told another coworker who I DID NOT invite that I invited him. So he facebook messaged me asking about it saying he never got the invitation. Uhhhh. Awkward. I had to tell him no I didn't invite you sorry. Lol.

Yep, it's crazy! I have a lady that keeps bringing it up at work, and we have no intention of inviting her. Just don't know her very well. We're especially not inviting her after finding out she RSVPed the day before to someone else's wedding, and brought her (uninvited) 10 yr old grandson along.

Lol yes. I just don't respond. And I don't tell any details of our wedding. I'm over explaining stuff and saying why or why not someone can come. I told my fh make a list check it twice and we sticking to it. This is not the time to start wanting to be a part of our lives. If we haven't talk in the last yr sorry but no invite

I had one person tell me this... an old friend from college who is still friends with my intended Man of Honor. This person told me, "I better get an invite, me and X (another friend from college, more friend by proxy) are going to show up and dance the night away... even if we don't get an invite, we'll crash!" I was so horrified, I didn't even know what to say. This was all said to me as I hugged him goodnight at intended MnOH's wedding reception, and I wish I could play it off like he had been drunk, but he wasn't.

I'm hoping I won't have to worry about it, we have another year to worry about invitations, so it would be more than likely he'll forget about it by then.

OMG yes I had a few and it's so annoying. I had a guy in my office that every time he would see me he would say (I haven't gotten my invite in the mail). At first I ignored it and finally I looked at him and said well you can stop looking because it's not coming. I am having only close family and friends at my wedding. People can be so rude....ugh

My deceased mother's former best friend said this to me.

And by 'former' I don't mean her best friend at the time of her death two years ago. My mom and this woman hadn't been friends for about fifteen years.

I was like... who tf do you think you are?

Omg I thought this was just me and the annoying people I know lol! I've been getting this a lot and so has my FH, he's nicer than I am so he'll say "we're having a small wedding" I, on the other hand, am rude and either don't reply or ask if we've spoken or hung out in the last year, if the answer is no, you're NOT invited lol!!
