How'd you choose your walk down the aisle song?

MRSDarlin' Now!, on August 27, 2010 at 8:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

I'm struggling a lot with picking and choosing songs for the wedding.. but mostly, my walk-down song. I really want to have the everyone gasping..which is totally NOT my style but there will be a lot of important ppl there watching and I want to be the most beautiful I have ever been (and I will be!) and i just want the best soundtrack for that as possible, LOL. I want ppl to get the full effect, and I want a song that will compliment my walk down the aisle. I love, love, LOVE Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah.. i also love Eva Cassidy's version of Somewhere over the rainbow. How do we pick something thats really long and shorten it? I mean.. i've asked this ? on here before and I dont think I got ANY replies. Do I have to shorten my song or do u think my DJ will do it? I need help Smiley sad

Is your DJ doing your ceremony? B/c they he might shorten it for you or have a version they could use. Sorry I'm not much help but I had a harpist who played a series of songs for me a month before the wedding and then I chose from those to keep it simple.

If your dj is doing the ceremony too, he can cut it for you, or just fade it out. That shouldn't be a problem. I'd recommend something instrumental though.

I'm planning on doing something off beat- like the Imperial Death March, or something crazy like that.

We have decided we want nothing but laughing in our marriage- so that includes the wedding... We're probably going a bit far in some aspects, but there are alot of very personal touches- so to speak.

When we started thinking about ceremony music, NotFroofy assumed it would be Wagner's "Here Comes the Bride" and Mendelssohn's "Wedding March." The only problem is that those two are completely inappropriate for a Jewish wedding. Wagner was the official musician of the Third Reich, and Mendelssohn was a Jew who converted to Christianity. So I told NotFroofy she could pick out anything other than those two. After only a little grumbling, she came up with a wonderful selection of classical music, which you can see here.

I think I picked mine from WW. I just listened to a bunch of songs from their lists until one struck a chord with me. I'm going with Leona Lewis' I will be. I'm doing the music for the ceremony myself. I've hired a sound guy to do the mics and he will play a CD of music I prepare for him. If you want to do the music yourself google a program called Audacity and download it. ;-) You can shorten the song, pastes parts together, and do fade ins and fade outs. There should be faqs and an audacity page all on how to do this.

I knew I wanted some quirky, cuz i really hate "here comes the bride". At first I was going to do "More than anyone" by gavin degraw cuz it's one of my favorite songs ever!! but then after choosing the other music it didn't really fit. I ended up using Journey's Don't Stop belivin' but the Vitamin String Quartet version... I loved it! It was perfectly me. something unexpected, but in a subtle way...

Oh, as for the length... I was worried about it with the gavin degraw song cuz i love the whole thing and the end is amazing, but honestly, you won't even hear the music. You'll be to overwhelmed by everything... I know I was... the only part i remember listening to was the begining that played before my dad and I walked down the aisle, cuz i was waiting for our cue... otherwise I could not tell you when the DJ faded it out...

Mine was a song my husband wrote for me when we first fell in love back in 1999. I've always known that was the song I'd walk to.

Agree w/ others, your DJ should be able to edit the song(s). BTW, that is my favorite version of Hallelujah! I love Jeff Buckley!

My DJ isn't editing my song, because the song itself has so much meaning to me and my hunny. I am walking to "History in the Making" by Darius Rucker. He wants to be able to have me stand in front of him and just look at him during the song while I'm standing with my dad. Part of that is because of the words of the song; the other part is because he says when he finally sees me coming down the aisle it's going to take him a minute to take it all in.

Anyway, I'm sure if your DJ is a good DJ, they will have a way to edit the song for you.

If your dj cannot shorten it for you then have it fade out would probably be the best thing to do! If your dj is not playing at the ceremony and you are doing your own music, i believe there are websites that you can fade out music, make remixs, etc and then you can download that version to a cd or ipod! I know a friend who did this, but I cant remember the site. We are walking down to Little White Church by Little Big Town! We were riding in the truck onday when it came on over the radio and we were jammin out to it and loved it so much we decided to walk down the aisle to it!!!
