How to word food options on rsvp without knowing them!

Stephanie, on December 28, 2017 at 11:00 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11
Hey everyone need some help....ordering our invitations today because Shutterfly actually has 50% off everything ending tonight. Our wedding is in April, and we don’t go for our tasting until 1/21. I at least know I will want salmon, my fiancé steak...but don’t know what kind or what will be with them! Also no idea what our vegan and/or vegetarian option will be. Is it tacky to word it just salmon or steak? And also for the third option- can I write vegan or vegetarian option- please circle one? I feel weird that I don’t know what they will be yet, as I have a few vegan/veg friends....help!

I think you can do something like

    a) red meat

    b) fish

    c) vegan

Personally, I wouldn’t order my invites yet if I don’t know all the info. I wanted to get Black Friday deals on invites but I couldn’t because I barely even have a timeline nailed down. If you don’t have accurate and booked good options, you can’t confirm anything and therefore shouldn’t be ordering anything, whatever wording you end up using.

We were in the same boat! We don't have our tasting/details appointment until mid-January. I agree with @Susan in that if you don't have your final information, you really shouldn't order. It may appear to be a good deal now, but there will be other deals. It would be unfortunate to find out at your appointment that they're taking salmon off the menu and your invitations need to reprinted.... opportunity cost.

I wouldn't order my RSVP cards yet. I would wait until I know exactly what the food options will be.

ETA: Shutterfly offers discounts pretty frequently throughout the year. You will likely see another 40% or 50% off relatively soon.

Shutterfly and all those places offer discounts like that regularly, so another discount will probably come along soon after your tasting.

If you are insistent on ordering them now, I think putting "steak", "fish", and "vegetarian" as options will suffice. You might get some questions from inquiring minds as to what the meals are, but ya never know.

I would definitely wait until I had all of the details to do this. Shutterfly has sales frequently, so you don't need to act now in order to get a good deal. I think there will definitely be some invitees that will want to know more about the entree other than "steak", "vegetarian" or "fish", but as PPs said, if you must order now then that may be your best bet.

Our menu wasn't finalized until 3 weeks before our wedding, so what we did we put:
    Beef
    Chicken
    Fish
and then made menus that had the food descriptions.

We did the same thing. Our RSVP cards had entree choices of Beef, Chicken, and Fish with a little icon next to each one. Once we finalized the menu we posted it to our website. No one had a problem with this.

Order the RSVP cards later. They have sales more then just now. Just keep looking after you do the tasting. What If you do the tasting and decide the chicken is amazing and you want that instead of salmon?

Probably against what most are doing....but I don’t have food options on my RSVP. We haven’t even picked a catering company yet.

I’ll probably only have 1 dish option or a buffet, and I have less than 50 that are invited, so probably not a big deal. so it’s not really nessesary in my case.
