How to not cry

Jennifer, on February 1, 2017 at 1:44 PM

Any tips out there on how to not bawl your eyes out like a blubbery asshole while walking down the aisle? I'm hoping my anxiety and general social awkwardness will help fight back the tears.

I was told to say "watermelon" and you won't cry. How true that is I'm not sure.

I didn't cry when he proposed, which sucks because I was kind of hoping I would. I'm not a crier, but really heartfelt words will get me going plus the sound of my mom crying instantly puts me over so I'll probably be good on the walk down, probably not so much hearing his vows or hearing my mom start crying because she WILL, haha. Honestly as far as advice goes I would try to keep yourself distracted, or, you know what they say... think about baseball Smiley winking

I'm glad I'm not the only one worried about how to suck the tears back. I'm way worse than you ladies I think, everytime I plan or think about it I get so emotional and start tearing. I don't cry for anything but the excitement kills me I'm going to be so embarrassed but you have to cry let it out! Everyone will understand. I'm sure your parents won't help much since they might get all choked up .

I usually cry all the time. Movies, songs... all of it. Didn't cry when he proposed. Didn't cry when I tried on THE dress. My arms felt tingly at the dress shop when I saw everyone's arms, but I mostly just get super quiet. FH is gonna bawl though rofl

I usually cry at any sentimental event so I'm planning to have a cry out session 2 days before the wedding w/ my maid of honor and listen to all the mushy sappy songs I can think of or watch something like 'braveheart' or 'titanic'. Hoping that I'll get it out of my system so I can focus on being smiley for my wedding day.

I get really emotionally invested in movies and TV shows. Watching two characters get married on Parks and Recreation and tearing up thinking about how that is really going to be us soon. And that isn't even real life. It's hard to picture not tearing up at such an emotional and wonderful day. I mean your wedding day is one of the biggest moments of your life. I cannot wait to embrace all of my emotions. I hope I don't look like a "blueberry asshole" though.

I just know I'm going to cry and it makes my stomach hurt just thinking about it. I hate being in front of people and being the center of attention! I'm going to be as red as a tomato. But I know he'll cry too so at least I won't be the only one Smiley winking

Oh there's no hope for me not to cry ha! I'll just be driving down the road and think about seeing him for the first time (we're doing a first look) or even thinking about us dancing together. I've even cried about bridal showers people are hosting for me. It's unreal how easily I cry. My dad will be walking me down the aisle, giving me away, and then he will actually turn around and officiate the rest of the wedding. There's no way on earth I'm not going to be crying my eyes out. Especially if (and when) my dad gets choked up. Ha! Y'all pray for us! :-)

Zack, I wish you had been there to pour me a Crown or six. Here's sending you a virtual toast (but it is so cute when grooms cry imo).

Ladies don't worry about crying! We are renewing our vows after 40 years and having our dream wedding that we never got to have. I have been crying just trying to pick out music. Our first wedding was such a disaster due to divorced parents and being young and silly, now having our dream wedding with all our children daughter in laws and grandchildren. What a blessing ! Pray that I don't cry because talk about an ugly crier! Omg

The only times I got teary eyed were during the first looks with my dad, walking down the aisle, and my first dance with my dad! Something about seeing my dad on my wedding day made me want to bawl! I found I also got emotional right before we walked down the aisle, but it was all happy. But I agree, first looks help a lot!

I have been thinking about this SO MUCH, especially these last few months! I am very sensitive and emotional, so I am pretty sure I will be bawling my eyes out LOL! So glad to see this post, but just reading it made me cry! Glad I am in good company! I agree with others, it is an emotional day. Let's not worry and let's just focus on marrying our best friend! We got this ;-)
