How to be your own wedding coordinator?

Angie, on August 27, 2014 at 11:17 PM Posted in Planning 1 8

The closer I get to my wedding date, the more overwhelmed I become. I've knocked out all the "major" ingredients for my wedding, but now I'm just wondering how it's all supposed to come together? Do the vendors just all show up the day of and do their thing? I know hiring an actual DOC would probably be helpful, but my budget is already being stretched to be the best host/hostess my fiancé and I can be.

Any advice? Experience? Resources? Thanks!

I know from my past experience of some brides ask someone to be their DOC, someone that has their best interests in mind and would not normally be the one to have any title, but is super helpful.

For these brides it was their grandma (and if you knew the woman, goodness she can plan)... but that's FH's grandma (who is pretty much his mother since he lived with her), so I'm thinking I might ask his aunt, she is fantastic, but was MOB to the two brides and they didn't want her scrambling around on their wedding day.

Once you get all the payments and arrangements together, I would pass along the phone number of a close friend or relative that you can trust who can field calls in the few days up to and on the day of the wedding to take any pressure or stress off you.

My best friend is helping me out. She will essentially be my DOC too. She has been here through the whole dating, engagement, planning anyway so she knows what we want and is able to answer just about any question we can think of.

As someone who has already been married and didn't have a DOC. It will be fine!

Have BM's check on things during the day if you need to... my flowers were delivered to the church ontime. the GM's brought them to us. The DJ went to the reception halls and set up (it's his job he knows how to do it dont' worry about him!)

The reception hall did everything they needed to and if there is an issue they will pull someone in your BP out and they will figure it out.

Honestly you are so busy you don't have time to think... is the DJ alright?

Just relax and enjoy your day!

I asked my cousin to be the host and she had no issue doing it. My MOH also stepped in the day of the wedding when smthn needed to be taken care of or if she saw me about to do smthn. I like to be involved with EVERYTHING, but would def recommend u asking someone to be the host for the wedding. As the host, my cousin basically introduced us, announced each person when it was time for them to say their speech/toast, inform guest when we were doing the cake cutting and inform guest when we were doing our first dance.

We didn't have anything delivered the morning of the wedding. The venue set-up everything for us (the extra decorations that we bought to the venue a couple of nights in advance). DH also arrived early to ensure nothing needed to be taken care of. The DJ met with the venue owner the week of the wedding, so she knew who he was when he arrived.

I had a few sheets that contained all vendor information (ie: makeup artist, photographer, DJ, etc) so if the info was needed ppl didn't have to contact me for it.

Instead of invited guests or your BM's working, ask one of your friends or family members if they have someone they really trust, that can come in a week or two before and help you get all the details, timeline, etc together for the day of. And "hire" them for the day of services. If you can swing it, offer them $100 and some food.
