How soon is too soon for wedding dress shopping?

Jaclyn, on July 19, 2016 at 10:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

I'm getting married in exactly a year from tomorrow (July 20,2017). And I have no idea when to start my journey in finding my wedding gown! When is the proper time? What if the dress comes in before the date, do I just store it in my closet?

It depends. Some dresses can take 6-8 months to come in after you order them, so you are definitely within the timeframe to start looking now! As far as storage goes, some stores will hold the dress there for you if you're getting alterations through them. I bought my dress at Macy's, so it's currently at my mom's house in a garment bag.

I went shopping and ordered my dress last summer for my October 2016 wedding. It's arriving tomorrow (eek!) so I'll have plenty of time for alterations.

I got mine two months ago and I am also a July bride! So I say you can start already! You'll know when it's the ONE. The store I bought it from keeps it and I have to go in April for alterations.

I'm a July bride as well! My date is the 15th and I already bought my dress from David's Bridal. I am living in Tampa but getting married in my hometown in upstate NY so I bought mine when I went home to visit family so my mom sister best friend and grandmother could come. No shame in looking now but some places can come in early (mine already came in and my mom is storing it for me) so just check with stores before you buy if that's a concern. But @Maria is right you'll know when it's the one!! Good luck in your search for your dress!!

You can definitely start now because it takes some brides months to find the one.

Also, I wanted to say great day to get married...It's my birthday! Hope you have a happy wedding day.

My wedding is July 2017 and I'm going this weekend to look. Just make sure when you find the one don't look at more dresses after!

I bought my wedding dress in April of this year. I'm not getting married till September of next year. When it's the one you just know. One of my bridesmaids has it at her place since FH & I live together.

I'm a June 2017 bride and just purchased my dress last week! My dress takes 6 months to come in, so it will give me a few months and plenty of time for any alterations to be made! It's never too early to start, many dresses take months to come in if they have to be ordered! Also, I paid $49 for my dress to be stored at the shop I purchased my dress at and they'll have it pressed, etc - I'll pick it up a week or so before the wedding and they'll have it ready to go Smiley smile

It's never too soon! Especially since sometimes, depending on the dress, it could take up to a year for your dress to arrive in the store.

I would definitely start looking now. I didn't want to start looking too far out because I have a tendency to change my mind often. So I feel like doing it a year out gives you time without feeling rushed but doesn't allow for me to change my mind a dozen times.

I went shopping 16 months in advance! If you know it's the one and you stop looking at other dresses once you purchase you shouldn't have any issues.

I ordered mine about a year out. I was told it takes 9 months to come in and two for alterations.
