How soon after your engagement did you start planning your wedding?

My family is feeling like we are moving too fast in touring and finding vendors for our wedding though is 13 months away. We got engaged this week July 17th. Is it too soon to plan? Should I set the date further?

It just depends on your wedding date, really! Since you already have a date it makes sense to get cracking. FH and I didn't set a date until we were engaged already 4 months! The reason we picked our date? Venue availability.

My mom asked me that same day what we had in mind. I was like dammmmnnn girl let me breathe! We started touring venues the next month. By the time we get married we will have been engaged for a little less than 14 months.

It's up to you and your FH what your comfortable with. My FH proposed on December 10th. We started talking budget and guest list within a few days and then immediately started the venue search. We booked our venue in February and just hit he ground running! Every month we're getting something else done to avoid stress. Smiley smile

We have a 14 month engagement, I booked my venue within 4 weeks of being engaged and now the wedding is only 9 months away! It's never too soon for a venue you really want and it's a big thing to check off your list to start getting other things done. IMO, you're not moving too fast, you're managing your time to get other things done with the least amount of stress!

I got engaged July 2016, went and toured, and booked our venue and had a dress all by the end of August 2016. It's not too soon!

Definitely not too soon. We got engaged June 4, 2016 and married June 23, 2017. We literally picked a date on the car ride home from our engagement. Booked the church and reception venue like 72 hours later. I had every vendor except our DJ booked before the end of July.

I'd start now with venue asap. Some venues book at least a year out.

The earlier the better! My FH and I got engaged last November and we started the next day talking about what date we wanted, the guest list, and what kind of venue we wanted. We really didn't start booking our venue and vendors until about 2 weeks later. I wanted the venue at least figured out before I had to return to school that January.

    Happy Planning! Smiley smile

Most people are booming venues a year out so the sooner the better! I don't know how it's ever too early, the more time you have the easier I feel.

We started planning right away. We already knew that we wanted to be married in November, so that only left us 11 months. I knew venues book quick so we got right on it. I was fortunate though because I didn't have any problems with the date that we had chosen. I guess not a lot of people were looking to get married the Sunday before Thnaksgivg in Columbus, Oh. I thought 11 months would take forever to come, but now I only have 119 days to go. It goes fast so plan accordingly.

I don't think is too soon. You should start searching and booking your venue more than a year away. We got engaged on November but we didn't started planing until January. On February we started touring venues for our April 2018 wedding and most of the days for our venue were booked. Do it at your own timeline, but keep in mind that venues book fast depending on were are having the wedding. Happy planning!

We didn't decide on our date until we picked the venue and went from there. We got engaged in July and found our venue in September. Hit the ground running after that. There will be random months that you don't do much wedding planning and other months jammed packed with wedding plans. Have fun with it.

Shop, pick a venue, and put the deposit down to secure your day. You have an advantage, as you are more than 12 months out, to secure your favorite venue. I say the sooner you book all your vendors the better because you'll have the pick of the litter.

Pretty much right away. My fiance wanted to get married within a few months of proposing. I wanted to wait a year because I wanted an actual wedding and not some last-minute thing in the backyard. We compromised on 8 months, so we had to start nailing things down pretty quickly after the proposal.

Depending on your area, it's perfect timing. Venues especially book well in advance.

I was engaged for almost 2 years before we started planning, but there was a lot of other stuff going on in my life at the time. If you want to be married in 13 months, I'd start now.

I started planning the next day. We didn't want more than a year and a half engagement and venues book so fast around here.

First off, a year-long engagement is pretty much the traditionally done thing, so by that standard, 13 months is hardly long at all! A lot of couples these days have roughly 18-month long engagements, because think about it: if you get engaged during the winter holiday stretch and want to have a big spring/summer wedding, typically venues will have long been booked.

We got engaged on New Year's Eve. I started planning January 2 by contacting venues. We got the date, ceremony venue/officiant and reception venue locked down by the end of January.
