How much time are you scheduling for hair and makeup?

SpringBride23, on February 2, 2019 at 9:35 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 17
It will be myself and 3 bridesmaids getting ready the morning of the wedding and we have 3.5 hours set aside for hair and makeup. We have 2 girls coming that morning, one for hair and one for makeup. Do you think 3.5 hours is enough time? I’ve talked to my photographer and MUA/hairstylist about this and they are thinking it will be fine, however I’m unsure. How much time are you setting aside?

I don’t have a bridal party. It will take me about 3 hours for hair and makeup.

I have myself, my mom, FMIL, my MOH, and three bridesmaids that have to get done. Wedding is at four but I have to be done by 1:30 for my first look at 2 (the others can continue to get their hair/makeup done until about 2:30-3). We will probably start by 8 in the morning if not earlier.

I’ve known my MUA for a while and I know she can do full bridal makeup and hair in less than 45 minutes... I’ve seen her do it before with amazing results. There are going to be 5/6 bridesmaids doing their hair and makeup with her, as well as my mother and the flower girl. So that’s a total of 8 people. We’re allocaring about 3 hours because she’s coming with assistants. Bottom line is: I think you should have enough time

I would trust the people you hired. Mine wants 4 hours for me, 4 bridesmaids, 3 flower girls (just hair), my mom and sister (just hair). She said the flower girls and my mom will only take 20-30mins, bridesmaids 30-45 and me 1 hour. They give me a detailed schedule the month before the wedding.

We scheduled 6 hours for hair and makeup. Makeup artist suggested 45 minutes per bridesmaid (4 of them) and 1.5 hours for me, and then my mom 45 minutes as well

It depends on the professionals that you hired (how they work, what they're doing for each, etc.) so I would trust their expertise!

I just asked the salon what they thought! I explained how many people were coming and that we wouldn't need both services for all the girls and they were able to tell me what they felt worked best! I also liked that they would call in as many people as needed to get things done in a timely manner.

My HMUA told me 45 minutes per service for bridesmaids, and an hour per service for me.

I think you'll be fine (two hours for you, then 1.5 hours x2 = 3), especially if your MUA says your fine!

I would ask your artist. Typically, bridesmaids take 30-45 minutes per service (so 1-1.5 hour per bridesmaid) and bride takes 60-90 minutes per service (2-3 hours). We are getting ready from 10 AM - 4 PM, there are 13 women getting hair & makeup done with 3 stylists.

Thanks ladies I feel like I really need to rethink this timing. I have 8 bridesmaids, everyone is getting their makeup done. I asked all the ladies to get their hair done the night before especially if they are using the same person that I am that way she is not too far stretched. But now I need to figure out how much time we really need the wedding starts at 6pm.... Suggestions anyone...

Work backwards! what time do you need to arrive at the wedding location? 5:30? 5:00? How long does it take to ride/drive to the wedding? Are you taking "get ready" pictures? If so, you need to be finished hair and make up before they start. Then ask your hair stylist how long it'll take to do your hair and make-up. Create a make-up (timeline) schedule, so you can see time slots for the things you need to be accomplished that morning. My MUA said she and her partner will take about 45mins for BMs and up to 2 hours for me. It may be quicker, but that's her suggestion. So to play it safe, I scheduled the first girl to start at 6:00am. I'll have at least the next person waiting, if not all BMs in the room waiting from the start, just in case someone is finished early.

If your photographer and HMUA say it’s fine, I’d trust them. I know many brides spend the entire day getting ready... One of my bridesmaids was in another wedding that began at 6pm and they had to be on site to start getting ready at 10am. Im like...... what the heck are you doing for 8 hours?! Lol.

Personally I cannot imagine that. I feel like my anxiety would build as time goes on, and also I’d just be antsy to get married and start celebrating already. I have 4 bridesmaids (one of them IS my hair and makeup artist because she a professional hair stylist haha) and we have 3 hours to get ready. My bridesmaid/HMUA said she needs 30 mins to do both hair and makeup for each girl, and 45 mins-an hour for me... but either 1 or 2 of my girls are doing their own makeup anyway (just having bridesmaid do their hair) so let’s say 1 hour for me + 30 mins for 1 bridesmaid HMU + 15 mins for 1 bridesmaid just hair + 15 mins for other bridesmaid just hair + 30 mins for HMUA bridesmaid to do her own hair and makeup....... all that is still only 2.5 hours.

Long story short I think yes if your HMUA is confident about it then 3.5 hours should be plenty of time, and I wouldn’t really WANT to spend more than that anyway!

I have 8 people in the bridal party including myself. My HMUA suggested 45 minutes to an hour on each person, depending on the different hair types.

I have 6 bridesmaids (hair and makeup), two flower girls (hair only) and the mother of the groom wants her hair and makeup done. We have 7 hours to do all of this, but I haven't confirmed how many people our stylist is sending or whether or not they think this is enough time...
