I'm beginning my search of venues..and..well...I wish I was rich. My fiance and I are looking for a unique spot. Unfortunately, we live in a small town with mostly all fire halls or conference looking spaces. Not what I really want for our wedding day. So, I started searching about an hour away and have come across a few places. Once again, unfortunately, they are in the range of **** dollars. Is this a normal price? Is it high? Is it a good deal? One place which is right where we live seems nice, but the cost of food there is ridiculous. Mind you..the prices of these venues is just that..the price for the space. It includes nothing.

Meh.

It depends on which venue you're talking about. The synagogue where we had our ceremony was $1,500. (Rates for nonmembers tend to be high, and as a same-sex couple, we couldn't get married in our local synagogue.) The restaurant where we had our luncheon after the ceremony charged us a 2% premium on the cost of the food for use of their private dining room, so it was only about $25 in "rent" for the entire luncheon. For our at-home reception, we rented a private club owned by a friend for $750. Not only was that unbelievably low for this area, but he gave us an open bar for 60 people for five hours for a total cost of $250. And he allowed us to have a friend rather than a professional caterer supply the food, which also saved us money.

@ Sarah R. - the prices I've listed is actually for New York, we're getting married a little ways outside of NYC in Albany....you can find good quality venues for cheap, you just have to put in the time and effort to research them

@ Kelly - some visuals on blah locations turned into gorgeous ones

My venue was free! The hotel is doing the dinner for our 250 guest reception@ $22 a plate inc free juice/pop/coffee bar (no alcohol). They supply the service, tables and chairs oh yes and a suite for us! So we pay for the food and they throw in the venue! Not too bad compared to some other places we looked at!

Our venue cost $1,550.00 in San Diego over looking a marina on a Sunday. Ceremony spot cost $400 and reception spot cost $950, plus $200 damage deposit fee. But its a DIY EVERYTHING!!! Nothing is included but table and chairs. We have all day to decorate too. We looked everywhere also and everything was so expensive. We just lucked out finding this place because we wanted our wedding over looking the water and with this place both our ceremony spot and reception spot over look the marina. Good luck, it took us over a year to find a place.
