I'm beginning my search of venues..and..well...I wish I was rich. My fiance and I are looking for a unique spot. Unfortunately, we live in a small town with mostly all fire halls or conference looking spaces. Not what I really want for our wedding day. So, I started searching about an hour away and have come across a few places. Once again, unfortunately, they are in the range of **** dollars. Is this a normal price? Is it high? Is it a good deal? One place which is right where we live seems nice, but the cost of food there is ridiculous. Mind you..the prices of these venues is just that..the price for the space. It includes nothing.

Meh.

I paid an ARM and LEG for mine (actually overpaid I think, but nothing I can do about it now, and my only other options were community halls and public parks.)

Mine is $6000 for the venue alone (doesn't even include chairs/linens), but it does include the use of 7 hotel rooms for 2 nights, a pool, use of the venue Friday for the rehearsal dinner, and breakfast on Saturday for everyone staying in the 7 rooms.

We have to be out of the rooms by 11ish Sunday morning, but have to do some of our own clean up and can get that done throughout the day.

It will also be totally private since it is a mansion/grounds that is not open to the public

You only get married once right? Smiley tongue

I think you need to look at it in a different way. I have no idea if this calculation is correct, but it's an example:

Nice Place: $70 pp for dinner, some drinks, the place is nice, requires minimum additional decor, and doesn't charge any other fees. Your total: $80 pp.

Hall: Rental fee $3,000, decor, hiring a caterer, bartender, buying drinks, etc. is total???

Look at the complete picture. We paid a lot for a plated dinner per person, but it required minimal decor and everything came with it. Including a cocktail hour, complementary cake and valet parking and a few other perks.

Ours was $1800 for the day. Its about an hour away from where I live, but in big city/suburban areas things are WAY more expensive, its a bit in the country so they have much more reasonable prices Smiley smile try seeing if there is a good venue a bit off the beaten path, they will probably have better prices!

Shop around too, some venues will let you get an outside caterer, and you can find one that may be cheaper than their in house caterer. My venue wouldn't let us but they were only $32 pp which is amazing! Every other in house caterer was at least $100pp! I did see some outside caterers that had prices ranging from $30-60 pp though so definitely shop around!

Our venue itself is free. We're members of our local country club and they let us use the facilities gratis on a 1st come/1st get. We DO get to go in as early as a week before an to decorate (assuming they don't have another booking for our room) and they give us AMPLE time to remove decorations.

We're not getting married til March, so we were the 1st to apply for the date. YAY!

They supply the bartender gratis, which is nice, but we have to supply the other things. A LOT of my family is non-drinking, BUT the country club does have an open bar. So those who do want to partake can. And they're offering us a great discount of our drink of choice.

As far as what other venues offer, i.e catering, my aunts are cooking my food and we have some college kids serving it on the cheap. Cake - FH's aunt is a pro decorator and we're swapping out her cake service and we'll provide her daughter's wedding DJ service in April. YEH! BARTERING BABY!

Ours is $32 pp, it includes ceremony and reception space, bridal preparation room, food and non alcoholic drinks (two entrees, three sides, tea and coffee), tables with linens.

For 100 people it will be $3200, which I think is a lot but considering it imcludes food I really cant complain.

Wow. I am in envy of the prices some brides have stated. My venue is 4K - that includes bridal chamber room for two hours before the ceremony, ceremony site, reception site, chairs, tables, linens. To be fair it does include a wedding planner and day of coordinator but nothing else was included. This was after a 30% discount too.

Like someone else above mentioned, I think the price is higher because we rented a private property overlooking the water.

I.e. bar, catering, cake, etc were all additional expenses.

Leasha - my middle name is Kimberly - so close!! Smiley smile
