In Md, it depends on which county you live in. Towson wants $55, City wants $35, the one I'm getting married in is $25. Unbelievable.

Our civil ceremony will be in Tennessee, and the marriage license is about $100.00

@Vicky P.: You always need to get the marriage license in the state in which you are getting married. Whether you need to get it in the same county depends on state law. In Massachusetts, for example, you can get the license in any jurisdiction within Massachusetts, and use it in that jurisdiction or any other Massachusetts jurisdiction. We got our license in Worcester, although we were married in Winchester.

Massachusetts marriage license fees also vary by jurisdiction. So if you have lots of time, you can get your license from the least expensive place, and still use it wherever in Massachusetts you want. We didn't do that only because we were more concerned about finding a place where the courthouse and the marriage license bureau were close together, so that we would not have to spend more time than necessary getting the waiver of the three-day waiting period as well as the license.
