How much ice do we need in our water trough?

Ashley , on July 21, 2018 at 10:17 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 3
Hello all!

we are having a water trough at our reception for the beverages. We are having bottled water and soda for our guests. The bar will provide ice for drinks. The trough is 2x8x2.We want to fill half of it with ice. How much would we need?

A lot. Instead of buying individual packages of ice at a store, see if there is a commercial ice supplier near you. They can do the calculation and provide the ice at a much better price.

The closest calculator I could find said 35 lb per cubic foot for a salad bar. (drink trough wasn't an option) Your trough is 32 cubic feet, which would be over 1000 lbs of ice. The regular bags of ice we buy are 8 lbs of ice. I believe the salad bar estimate was accounting for 6 inche depth of ice, so you would need more than that to have it half full and it's 2 feet deep.

Hey, Ashley! Welcome to WeddingWire and congrats! Smiley heart

So the bar is providing the ice but it sounds like you need to let them know how much they'll need? I'm a little confused Smiley xd
